The Youtube VIDEO JUKEBOX thread

Try this one.

1. Go to Youtube.

2. Find a song which is meaningful to you in some way.

3. Post it here with a footnote.

This song takes me back to when I was 10 years old and got myself my very first proper girlfriend. It was the only record she owned herself and we must have listened to it ten thousand times.

I still can't listen to it without smiling to myself.

For those who wish to participate but can't work out how to embed the YT video, it's easy.

Do the following in a normal thread response.

You start with the YT inside block brackets, you then paste the "embed" information that you copied (highlight/right hand mouse click/copy) from the right hand side of the YT video you found and you end with the /YT, also inside brackets.

If you can't do that properly, six points.

I don't want points, hope I get this right

This song reminds me of someone. Whether it's good or bad, I'm not sure yet. But when I hear it, I feel like I'm in a whole different time and place.

This song was dedicated to me by a girl that I was really in love when I was teenager. When I hear it lots of good memories are coming back.

I have posted this before, but it remains one of my favorite songs by one of my very favorite artists, Eric Clapton. The song is called "Worried Life Blues," and he is accompanied by blues great, Buddy Guy as well as his trusty Datejust. Take a look and a listen . . .

(Uh oh, what went wrong?)

Edit . Read post 2.

Hawkwind Space Ritual along with Deep Purple Made in Japan was an album that was played to death in my youth. Experimental music for my experimental younger days finding pubs going to gigs, girls.
Hawkwind gigs were totally weird. Lightshows, Lemmy before he was in Motorhead pounding away on the guitar, they also had a six foot dancer Stacia dancing nude, good days Still got the albums.

Rory Gallagher's 'A Million Miles Miles Away'. Great blues guitarist and tormented soul. His music introduced me to blues and he still is one of my favourites. Alas, his thirst made a very timely end to his life.

My most hated song of the 70s.

UK members, this guy is the same one in the current stupid Yorkshire Tea adverts. He hasn't aged too well.

Most songs that would make me emote in any way would come from my old rave days...although I'm not entirely sure they were natural emotions or even real memories but tunes that would get the hairs on the back of my neck standing are:

Wahey...pop fairground rave!!!!!

It was this or Ego Acid by the Pump Panel and I couldn't find that video...squelchy acid mental goodness.

Not the original mix but this is the only vid I could find. Cross between fairground rave and squelchy acid goodness!!!!

One Sunday night when I must have been about 11 or 12 years old I watched the movie Woodstock on low volume on the black and white tv in my bedroom (I think it was on about 1am or something).

I wasn't really impressed by what I was saw apart from this guy who came out with his beard and rings on his fingers and a weird long thumbnail etc. He looked like a cross between a witch doctor and a wizard from Arthurian legends and his guitar playing was his magic. His voice was melodic yet had the bluesy folk gruffness.

My heart was pounding and it gave me goosebumps. I had no idea who it was and the next evening asked my father who he was (I then got into trouble for sneaking some late night tv watching when I had school the next day).

The man was Ritchie Havens and his music has been with me ever since!

Jim: I guess I'm really old, but no problems, I've got friends like you around!
And yeah, Richie Havens is a heavy hitter, and Tupelo Honey(Van Morrison) and Just Like A Woman(Robert Zimmerman) is a wonderful medley. Thanks!

to imbed u tube clips on TRF?

go to utube, and find the clip you want
go to 'imbed' at the clip you want on u tube.
copy all of it.
type in yt inside brackets[ ] (if i do it here there'll be a big blank on this page)
paste the content of 'imbed' after the yt inside the brackets
type in /yt inside brackets [ ].
that's it.

No probs....I just wanted to highlight that I wasn't around when all this fuss was being made, I was born into a world which hasd been revolutionised so I knew no different.
At that age, seeing this was like your eyes being opened for the first time. It opened the door for civil rights, human attrocities and a great big universe of meaningful lyrics and art.
There weren't many kids at school who were interested in that kind of stuff!

This was the first record I ever owned, and it's still one of my all time greats. I didn't realise when I was eight that it was about a "Tranny" The words are so funny if you listen to them. The Kinks never really bothered trying to "break" into the North American market but were a big success in GB and a role model for many later British bands.
