Seadweller 1665

Hi

Got the chance to do a direct swap for a 1665. It’s a gorgeous watch but basically as new with service original parts. Bezel, dial, hands and bracelet.

Is a swap of my 114060 and 114270 a bad deal. Price wise it seems about right? Thoughts?

It strikes me as perhaps an acceptable deal, but not a great one.

We don't know the condition of your 114060 and 114270, nor what comes with them.

Such a watch as this 1665 is always going to create a slight conundrum, as the very things about the model which appeal are compromised by the presence of the service parts.

Personally, I would stick with what you have and await another deal.

I concur with the sage advice above...lotta trade for service parts and that particular 1665 lacks 'charm'.

A service part (dial, hands, bezel) 1665 does not feel like a desirable watch to trade for when you are giving up 2 fairly popular modern watches…
So you end up with 1 pseudo modern watch after giving up 2 modern watches…
Doesn’t add up to me…

Depends on what you desire more. I personally have a soft spot for vintage and don't like modern Rolex references.

To me, I prefer vintage pieces with original service parts as the watch, while old, can be worn daily without issue and works as it was originally intended.

It still has an open 6/9 date wheel, matte dial, no white gold surround lume plots - so it still has the vintage charm.

Great answer, but I personally regret not buying a 1680 with matte service dial and matching hands. What you have there is the vintage charm of in my opinion one of the best references, but something to wear everyday, including beach, pool etc.

I own a 1680 with RSC replacement mid-case, dial, handset, date wheel, bezel and bracelet….but it still has the case back and movement . It is one of my favorite watches to wear. That said I would not do the trade proposed to you - IMO a straight swap for your Sub would be a more than generous exchange.

Seems to be a tricky call in terms of how good the deal is, and its also unclear if it has been restored to everyday "water wear" etc? It certainly looks very nice indeed though!

A big NO from me … 4digit divers are magic and this 1665 lost its soul like many disastered vintage divers passed through RSC …
It is even more interesting and fascinating the bulky 114060 (I love that watch, the hardest Sub ever made) than this ex great white …
On the other hand, I really agree on your ref choice … 1665 … but you need to feel a bit much more about its magic and study some interesting stories about …
With less complexity, but with great charme, is the further ref 16660, the first 4000ft SD …

No point in having a 1665 with Luminova dial.

No matter how many money the seller is telling you are saving, or what "this way you are going to wear it with less concern" narrative he is suggesting: a vintage watch is cool because of its vintage parts.
