Going to my first AP boutique tomorrow

Called in to ask about how to start building a relationship, talked to a SA and got his personal number to which I sent him a brief note about myself and my interests in watches. Told him I’m looking for a RO steel in gray or white and he said I can try on his gray one tomorrow. Been a very pleasant first convo, way better than Rolex.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes! If they pull out the iPad and create your profile, you know it went well.

The Boston group are all super nice. And you will for sure like the gentleman who offered for you to try on his RO. He’s so nice and genuine (as is his brother who also is an SA there). Guaranteed to have a great interaction and confidence he will do his best for you. Just keep in mind the challenges they have in fulfilling all the requests they get (especially this year), so patience is definitely a virtue in all of horology these days. Let us know how it goes.

I am amazed at how you know so much more before I. Are you local too? I’m not expecting too much but am having a birthday soon so no reason not to give a shot

Yes, that is the boutique I established my relationship with (I’m an hour out). So I wouldn’t say local to the point I could easily pop in to say hello, but even periodic emails work well. But I was always sensitive about not being overbearing, relatively speaking. Regardless, they are genuine and enjoy talking about watches, and enjoy getting to know new enthusiasts. You will enjoy the visit.

I’m on the younger end (31) so prob not the ideal demographic to purchase higher prices watches but more on the entry AP. Think that might hurt me? Im a tech worker so can afford pieces but not old money

No, not at all. At least not there and not that group. Plus, same demographic. Ultimately, it’s how you carry/represent yourself. Especially these days, not smart to ‘judge a book by its cover’!

AP Boston is always a pleasure to talk to (I haven't really asked them for anything particular). My experience at the Newbury St. Rolex boutique was like talking to a polite, but disinterested, nightclub bouncer.

Yeah they wouldn’t take any info initially. I had to go through the Burlington longs

No, I haven’t been to Shreve. I know they have a mix of other brands, but I haven’t experienced them before.

I had a great time! The positives are that Chris was super fun to talk to and I enjoyed our discussion about watches. One thing I hope AP considers is that since there aren’t exhibition pieces, just stopping by feels like loitering.

I agree that it can feel weird but I can assure you that's what they want. They want you to drop in and talk watches. At some point they will feel that they know you enough to sell you a watch and be assured that you are not flipping.
If you are really serious about a Royal Oak I recommend dropping in every 2 months or so to keep the conversation going. Regarding your previous comment about age I am 34 and I certainly not old money. They have been great with me and i have been able to get a few great pieces.
