126715 CHNR / Italy

My daughter is headed off to college in the fall and it’s my wife’s birthday week. A good time to take a nice family vacation. A couple weeks in southern Italy sounded like a good idea! As we packed for the trip, I had all my travel essentials planned. My timepiece for the holiday was to be the two tone rootbeer CHNR. It’s my daily wear and I really enjoy strapping it on each morning. At the very last second, my wife suggested I take the full gold CHNR. I rarely wear this piece and have kept it looking new. I didn’t want to put those dreaded hairline swirls on the polished center links since I thought I’d sell at some point if I could make a buck to help fund a Platona. However I’ve since lost interest in the Platona and decided not to sell the CHNR. I like a bit of color in my small collection and this fits the bill. So off we went to Italy! First stop was the Lake Como and Bellagio areas. Absolutely gorgeous! At first I was a little concerned about the watch making me a target with all of the internet chatter about muggings etc.
Several nights out to dinner and drinks with long walks, a boat tour and no issues. Spotted several Rolex, AP, Panarai, etc. all good. Next stop was a few days in Monterosso al Mare. A small beach town. My daughter and I went for a cool trail run up in the hills around the town. I hid the watch in our apartment along with my wife’s Rolex. This of course could have been dangerous but whatever. We’re insured. Later that AM we went to the beach and I wore the rose CHNR. I was careful not to scratch or ding but did swim in the beautiful sea.
Fabulous dinners, evening walks, family pics, ice cream and back to the rented apartment. No problem! Next stop was a few days in Sorrento. Same here. Lots and lots of Rolex sightings. Full gold AP’s, many, many YG Day Dates, tons of TT subs, one TT CHNR sighting, a handful of panarai, etc. Beach time, cocktails in the square whilst people watching, dinners, etc. All good.
Next stop was Capris. Fantastic! While having an amazing lunch on a hillside in Capris, sitting next to us was a younger handsome couple both wearing rose gold pieces. She a gorgeous blue dial rose gold AP and he a chocolate dial rose gold Day Date. They looked fantastic and might be on here!?!? It was obvious they were watch folks as they noticed my rosey piece, we exchanged pleasantries, the secret watch nod and moved on.
Some more beach time with the CHNR! Back to the hotel and after a good bath with fresh water the CHNR looks as good as new. Funny my daughter caught me with her iPhone taking wrist shots of the CHNR with my iPhone. She thinks I’m silly and we had a good laugh.
While there on the holiday, my AD called to tell me she had just received a new TT blusy and asked if I wanted it. Of course I told her I’d take it although I’m still skeptical about the white text. Figured I’d give it a try as that gorgeous blue dial is still beautiful although I think the gold text is better at least in pictures. We’ll see…
The only warning I had was a kind gentleman at the Rome airport came up and politely told me to be careful of wearing my watch in Roma. He said very dangerous. We weren’t going into Rome so wasn’t an issue. I thanked him for the advice and we boarded our flight. All ended well. Of course we were in resort areas and don’t go clubbing or to sketchy areas if we can help it. I always try to be aware of my surroundings and make an effort to be reasonably cautious without living in fear.
I made it with no issues wearing my 126715 CHNR! So glad I took the full gold over the TT with all of the nice watches I observed in the holiday. It was a nice feeling wearing a good and heavy full gold timepiece. I’m super careful with my pieces and made sure to give a good bath after swimming in the sea. Also wear tight not only bc that’s the way I like the fit, but to help prevent link wear. This model also has the ceramic sleeves so that also helps prevent wear. When a bit salty with sweat, sunscreen smudges in bright sunlight, the piece looks a bit vintage. The brown of the bezel seemed to change to a dark burgundy color. Absolutely gorgeous against the rose gold. This can’t be reproduced in iPhone photographs. Reminded me of those classic vintage GMT photos from the good ol days. Some of the vintage gold GMT ads and even the “for sale” vintage full gold pieces look rose gold more so than yellow gold in photos. (To me)
This watch is a keeper for sure and I’d recommend it if your on the fence. It needs to be worn not in a safe like mine has previously been. Anyway pics or it didn’t happen right? I’m writing this on the return flight sorry for any grammar mistakes and poor quality photos. They’re just random shots.

Looks like an amazing time and I am glad that you decided to take this one, not only for the memories that will be associated with this gorgeous GMT, but to actually enjoy it. My favorite line from your story is: “it needs to be worn and not in a safe like mine has previously been.”

These watches need to be enjoyed, not locked away.

How do you keep the high polish center links from getting scratched? They look great!

great looking piece! Do you fund it redundant to have both the full good and two-tone CHNR?

Thanks! I did nothing special. Just gave them a good rinse after swimming in the sea. They’ll start to patina at some point like all PCL.

Thanks and not at all! I enjoy the TT as my daily and the full rose for vacation and dinners out with the bride. I’ll def wear the full rose more often now. Around the house, hiking, etc will be the TT. For cycling, running etc is the Apple Watch!
