I was carjacked in LA, so don't drive a car, either.

No need to be paranoid...or flippant...why tempt the fates?

Just be careful.

Sorry to be so facetious with this post. It's just that, in a greater metro area of nearly 19 million, a lot happens. I lived in LA 15 years, and, not only did I get carjacked off Fairfax, but, when I lived in a high-end suburb for a year, a kid got shot after prom and crashed into my neighbor's yard, and then a highly rated, nearby elementary school found a body in one of their trashcans.

I'm not sure any of that was national news, at the time, so don't let anecdotes scare you too much, but, of course, be smart and safe.

My fam and I are going to a road trip for the kids later in the summer, hitting Disneyland, Legoland, and SeaWorld. I'm currently planning to take my Omega seamaster on nato. But maybe I should be wearing my $500 Nezumi instead. I dunno. If you can't enjoy your watch, what's the point. Just trying to find balance.

I think twice about wearing my Rolex watches anywhere untenable. As a matter of fact I think twice about venturing to anywhere untenable.

You forgot forced labor. That couple made them exert effort to get the watch.

And, I'm guessing, they aren't anecdotes to the victims or their families. I have never been the victim of a violent crime and I C&C here in Arizona...but not in LA or NY, of course...I am respectful of news stories and local knowledge and tend to pay attention to this information.
Of course. It’s awful for the victims. I’m just saying that your news feed is sending you a single crime story that happens to be related to Rolex. If you saw a list of all the crimes going on in each large city each day, you’d probably not go outside.

I was carjacked in a girlfriend’s $17k car, but you just didn’t hear about it. Maybe if it was a Ferrari you would’ve heard about it. Same with zillions of other crimes. Only the sexy ones make the news.

I appreciate your comments but the one about a single crime story emerging from the Google search is just not accurate. There were several, and all from the greater LA area. And, as far as I can tell from a law enforcement and justice attitude and POV relative to the area, it is going to continue...

Also, born and raised on the lower East Side of NYC, so I can relate to all of this...

Several like 5, or several like 500? There are something like 20k robberies in LA county per year.

I’m going to Oakland tomorrow and my wife and our live-in Yoga instructor and former Mr Costa Rica Javier insist I wear my DayDate freely. And I will.

You all just need some support.

It was a Rolex theft….this is a Rolex forum. I have no issue with this thread. But you are right, crimes are being committed everywhere for just about everything. Like many, I have worn my Rolex watches everywhere I travel, but am ALWAYS cognizant of where I am and what I’m doing. Thankfully I am past the age of getting plastered at whatever bars serve the cheapest drinks (why does Cabo in 1993 spring to mind?).
But this particular theft was at a grocery store??!! Mid-day?? Pistol whipped? Good God….thoughts go out to those poor people.

Yeah, when I was carjacked, it was in a full parking lot at a well known diner. The guy was hiding behind another car, and, when I got out of the car, he was right there, on me with a .45 to my head. The cops said it had been a long time since any crime like that had happened in the area.

Life is chaos, be kind.

A lot of robbers target Asian grocery stores because many Asians tend to have expensive cars and wear expensive jewelry.

Many older Asians also tend to carry a lot of cash.

Leftover belief from the older generations and/or 60-70-80's that banks couldn't be trusted? Or is it the need to "show wealth" in order to some how differentiate from every other person also trying to "show wealth"?

Honest cultural question based on your comment.
