Police Officer Tony Mazurkiewicz was shot and killed yesterday while on patrol on Bauman Street at 9:15 pm.

Officer Mazurkiewicz was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. His partner was shot in the lower body and transported to Rochester General Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The subject fled and has not been apprehended.

Officer Mazurkiewicz had served with the Rochester Police Department for 29 years. He is survived by his wife and children.

I live in Rochester and, for many years, my family owned a business in that neighborhood. Thankfully, we are long gone from there. Our city, like many others in the US, is being overrun with crime and senseless shootings.
Officer Mazurkiewicz was working an undercover surveillance detail and sitting in an old minivan at the time of the ambush. He was shot in the back by the cowardly attacker who fired a total of 17 shots. The attacker was caught a short time later hiding in the attic of an abandoned building. He was 21 years old with a very long violent criminal record going back to the age of 12.
