First scratches; how did you get yours?

Within 10 days of wearing my SS Daytona, fine scratches have appeared on the bracelet.
Kept wondering how I got it so fast
Now I know. Wrist (with watch on) resting on laptop while surfing the Rolex Forum!
Lesson learnt.

It's always hard when you get your first scratch on your new watch or car but after the first scratch, then you stop worrying about it and start to enjoy them better!

The first scratch on my Deep Sea occurred against the ladder climbing back into the boat after scuba diving.

You get a bit of history with a pre-owned watch and don't have to pay for it!

Newly bought the watch around noon time, my girlfriend discovered the first scratch when I show it her in the evening.

I think pre scratch means before scratches occurred, meaning NEW!

You bought post scratched, or just plain scratched, like my right butt cheek....

The first (cut) scratch is the deepest as they say. I remember exactly when I got my first major, noticeable deep scratch on my SS Daytona. It was November 2006, about 9 months after I bought it. I climbed on top of one of the Lion Statues in Trafalgar Square in Central London. Not long after, looked at my watch and noticed the deepest scratch on the clasp. Whenever I see the scratch I remember that night.

But as many have said, it only adds to it character.

I am very careful with my watches. Some have no scratches at all.

Let's hope that I can manage to be so fortunate with my DD: none YET.

Got my DJ bezel scratch on the darn seatbelt. Makes me mad but I always can get it service and it should look as new again. So no more worries about scratches but I'm still pretty careful.

I agree that scratches just add to the character of the watch. Wear it, and enjoy it. That's why they invented to "SPA", to send your watch to, and they send it back looking like new
A side note, I just bought a new Omega PO last week, and already I've got a few scratches on the clasp , but nothing that can't be buffed out with a scotch brite pad, making it look like new again

The crystal is very hard (Mohs 9)and won't normally scratch. The case and lugs can get damaged if you are careless, but scratches or striations invariably occur on the oyster bracelet. It's very easy to clean up the oyster bracelet and have it looking like new.

Alternatively put the watch on a NATO prior to diving or snorkelling. Yes I know they are ugly, but they do the job....ask 007

Removing and refitting the oyster bracelet is a cinch provided you have the right tools for the job. Takes but a few minutes when you get the knack of it.

Here's a photo of my oyster & clasp. You can see it is as good as the day it was lifted out the box.

Anyone who isn't mindful of wearing a Rolex shouldn't be wearing one IMHO.

But these are not so easy.

I have just poilshed this one with a fine red rouge jewellers cloth and buffed with a soft cloth - looks almost as good as new but takes time to do it as the red rouuge has very little cut.

My clasp hardly got any scratches on and I am planning to keep it this way. But I have been very careful with both my Rolexes.
