Newb to this board and to Rolex....
Dear members:
Earlier this week I purchased my first Rolex. A brad-new stickers-still-on "M" TT Blue Sub. I couldn't be happier!. I purchased it from my wife's distant cousin who is a wholesale jewler and has an excellent reputation throughout my wife's country (Dominican Republic). I also got my wife a TT Cartier Santos which she liked very much. I brought the watch from him instead of a AD specially because when I was going to marry my wife he sold me her wedding ring and band. I was just starting my profession and money was tight. At that time, he gave a good deal on her ring but most importantly he allowed me to pay him in installments without charging interest or even considering my horrible credit due to exorbitant outstanding student loans and credit cards. Without his help, I would not have been able to please my wife with the ring that she wanted. For that reason alone, I feel obliged to give him my business. The total price, including tax, I paid for the Sub was $7200 and $4000 for the cartier. Of course, he also offered me the option to pay it off montly but this time I was able to buy both watches cash. I was hoping that you guys could guide me through some issues that I have lingering on my head. First, is the warranty. He gave me the card which I have attached for you review. The card is blank in the place reserved for the buyer and date of purchase. Of course the name of the seller in the card is not his company but apperently some jewler in Europe. I have read in several places that unless you buy at the AD your Rolex will not covered by any factory warranty. If my watch breaks or ends up defective I am at the mercy of G-d? Can I fill out the card and use it in conjuction with the receipt he gave me as proof of purchase? Secondly, my watch is gaining 15 seconds per day. Is this normal? is it the end of the world? I rather not have to open it. Lastly, He gave it to me without the instructions and booklets that come with it. I guess I can still ask him to see if he has them. But should I worry if I don't have them? I don't plan on selling it anytime soon... Thank you guys for all your responses and hope you enjoy the crappy pics I took. I promise once I figure out this "watch photography thing" I will post better pictures. |

Clearly your Jeweler is not an Authorized Dealer...... For that reason, you have purchased a watch that is not in Rolex distributor system in the USA, so the warranty would not be valid. There is no reason to fill it our unless you just want the card with your name on it....
You could fill things out and hope tht a Dealer will regulate it under warranty, but don't feel disappointed if it doesn't work.. If your friend has connections, then he should know a reliable watchmaker who can properly time it to standards for a nominal charge and you are unlikely to need anything else for the next half decade or so..........

I would wear your watch for a month and see if it still is gaining 15 seconds a day. If yes, then I would take it to your local AD or a RSC to have it regulated.
I would not worry about booklets and manuals but you could always ask him about them. If it really bothers you, then you could get them off of ebay. Congratulations on your new sub! Enjoy and wear it in good health! Allan |

Thanks for your response Tools! You are right, he is not an AD or even close. He works out of a bullet proof office in downtown Miami and his job consist of supplying jewlery to shops around the area and selling to customers overseas. He did mentioned that he knows the best people here in MIA and that he would help me with anything I needed. I will keep timing it to see if it continues to gain more time. For now, I am thinking just to enjoy my new baby and try not to worry too much. I am not OCD and 15 seconds per day is not that bad (at least to me). Moreover, it will just be a reason to unscrew the crown every other week and play a little with it. How about the booklets? what type of info is found there? anything I should know that cannot learn in this forum?
Thanks again! I am blessed to have discovered this forum full of ppl that know and love Rolex!!! |
