37 vs 41 Popularity?
Is the Royal Oak popularity still like that as of 4-5 years ago where the 37 15550ST has a much smaller following than the 41 15510ST? I’m pondering going in to pitch myself for a silver ROC 41 and then a matching silver RO 37 for the wife. Is this a reasonable play or are the 37’s hard to obtain as well and it doesn’t really give me an advantage? Actually not technically wanting until next year after the 50th rotors are discontinued anyways, just seeking a collection date of sometime in 2023.
Any help would be appreciated! |

IMO the 37-39mm size point is best suited to ROs. Unless you have gigachad wrists, the 41mm is a lot of dial. Still very, very, hard to get - especially given that it is unisex and many women prefer the 37mm sizing to the 34mm.

A new customer with no history cannot expect to get anything they request. AP wants clients able to buy multiple ongoing pieces, not a one and done or a two and done.
Give them a range of things you like and will take, and you will be offered some watches in a year. Then you may eventually end up with the two you want. |

i think the 37mm is like a 36 day-date. more dressy for a guy, while the 41 is full on sports watch.

Right now it's a distinction between oversubscribed and completely oversubscribed. But with the market cooling off (and maybe continuing do so), it's worth a shot - smaller hype around the silver dial should help. You probably want to stress that you'd be happy with either 41 or 37mm as first piece. |

You are right about the previous version of 41mm (15500). However this is not the case anymore with the new reference 15510. |

Popularity is one thing, what your SA is willing to sell you is another. Thus far, I’ve got a 15500 and a 50th 26240st, so that’s 2 41mms. FWIW, I’ve asked my SA about a 37mm before, and she said she will never allocate me a 37mm as she thinks it’s too small for me.
I will confess, and no right or wrong here, but the 41mm is an incredible size. The physical presence from that size suits the flashy and masculine design of the Royal Oak. And my wrist ain’t large, just 6.3inches but quite flat. |

Thanks for the feedback thus far everyone. I am pretty firm in that I only purchase watches I want to own/keep (as does my wife) so hopeful we can find a SA who would be willing to help, being a memorable duo for us. With that being said, anyone have a SA in the states who might be worth a shot?

Blue dial 37mm looks more like a lady's watch, assuming you're not going for that size |

My wrist is 6.3 and flat like you. I haven’t tried on the 15500 but I have the grey 15550 50th anniv. model. It wears small but it fits my wrist really well and really comfortable with the minor changes that AP made. I think the grey and white 37mm doesn’t look as small as the blue dial version.

Vipes, can you share a wrist shot since we’re the same size? Would be much appreciated.

I wear 40mm Rolex quite easily with my 17cm wrist and also 36mm Day-Date.
My 15450 wears much bigger than the 36 mm Rolex! I would say it wears like a 39mm Rolex. My wife wears 33mm RO. A lot of people wear the RO too large imo. If you have a 6.3 inch wrist it better be superflat, otherwise I think 41mm (which wears like a 42/43 mm at least), is rather big! |

Id opt for the 15450. Have similar wrist size as you, and a RO generally wears larger than its actual size, the 41 would look too large IMO (for my taste anyway) on your wrist size.

Thank you both! I think I’m going to make my way down to 47th st to compare these two. Will report back.

Not too sure about the outlook on delivery of RO pieces for new clients in 2023 as I have seen first hand many VIPs (or at least I thought they were VIPs) get shafted and told no this year. On the other hand, quite a few first time buyers have scored hard to get pieces this year. It all comes down to luck I guess.
Just make sure to communicate exactly what you want and why you want it to your SA, then be patient and hope for the best. I really enjoyed trying on the 37mm RO and 38mm ROC. However, I found the taper on the bracelets to look somewhat feminine on my wrist as I can really only wear 39mm or larger for AP. Personally, I find the new bracelet on the 41mm RO to be tremendous. |

Ok, the bracelet is not too wide indeed. I like to see some links of the bracelet when I look at my watch. Especially with the RO, the bracelet is a big part of the package I love.

Definitely 37. I have a 7.2” wrist, and had a 15400 before my jumbo. Didn’t like the size at all.

Chiming in for the 37mm. It’s a great size if you don’t have a huge wrist.
I feel like the way a Royal oak wears, you kind of have to factor in another 1.5 to 2mm compared to a non-AP. My 38mm ROC wears pretty much identical to my Daytona. I feel like it’s a difficult time to get an AP given the large refresh and “50 yr anniversary” rotor models being allocated to customers with lengthy purchase histories. A 2-3 year wait sounds kind of reasonable? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
