It’s got to be the lighting

To be frank, I was never enamored with the LV until my AD showed me one in person and I was genuinely taken aback by how beautiful it was. I asked them for one and I eventually got the call a few months ago… I still see pics of it out there and, it still appears a tad lackluster to me lol. And this is not a slight on all our great forum photographers! This is just a “me problem.”

Anyway, I was able to snap a pic the other day that I feel approaches capturing the “real life” appeal of the watch—to me at least.

I'm red/green impaired and the bezel looks gray to me, but I'm familiar enough with that look that I can usually know that I'm looking at green, even if it looks gray.

I saw one in the flesh and it was so beautiful I decided to place my interest with my AD. The green bezel and the black dial work so well together.

That's a picture of a wall, not a watch. The watch, which is supposed to the be the subject, takes up about 5% of the picture space. Can you get a little closer?

The LV's are very deceptive to me, they look nothing in pics but IRL they really pop. I had no interest in the 116610LV until I saw one, then I had to have one!

I saw the title and I must be honest I thought it was going to be a thread about different versions of the BLRO bezel! That would’ve been 10 pages of arguments, so I’m glad it’s about the LV!

Great pictures from all contributors so far.

The best photos don't tend to do justice to a watch compared with the real thing on your own wrist in real ambient lighting. I thought the BLNR was dull until I held one in my hand. It's anything but. Most photos of Hulks I've seen don't come anywhere near doing it justice and even good ones don't convincingly convey the dial or the way the rest of the watch reacts with it as you move around with one on your wrist. BLRO photos seem to be the biggest mixed bag of all. Explorers and Explorer IIs seem to be a bit more consistent and better represented in photos. Most photos of watches with black and white schemes, particularly on SS seem to approach the real thing too.

The only possible flip argument I can think of is the Daytona. It features in a lot of ads and posters, often larger than life size. It looks so achingly cool and stylish, yet every time I see one for real I can't understand what all the fuss is about. It just doesn't pop - for me. Each to our own.

Pictures are amazing, really shows the hues of the bezel. Really hope to add one to the collection in the future.

I’ve always been a much bigger fan of the LV (both the 116610LV and 126610LV) in person. The pictures can never do it justice.

Awesome pics, everyone! Thanks for sharing! And it seems like the general sentiment is that the LV is one of those “see it to believe it” pieces. I did a complete 180 on it after seeing it in person the first time!

OP - Could not agree more, even as my lighting and photography pales in comparison to yours. Cheers.

I used to have a Hulk (same bezel) and it really was a Jekel & Hyde looking thing, totally dependent on the lighting. In bright sun or the "right" indoor lighting, it was stunning. In other conditions, kind of dull and boring.

That's why it's so important to see the watch in person, and on your wrist.
If only Rolex ADs had at least 1 display for most models so people can try them on before buying one.
