Fuschia Dial 1675 At Auction

https://www.auctionninja.com/artifac...te--12597.html

This looks like an original bezel and bracelet but replacement calendar wheel, correct? It says "papers" but I cant see the other side.

It's a worthless repainted/fake dial for a start.
Appalling behaviour by this auction house, passing this off as original watch and not stating that fact - can't see any notification it's a repainted dial/fake dial.

And what do you think of this one:
PLEASE NOTE
New Information has made us aware that maintenance has been done on this piece, with that said we don't know where or when.

Whether it was in 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000? Who cares ;-)

I've talked with the owner of the auction site and she is no expert at all with watches - especially Rolex. She has recently been contacted by a couple of individuals who have told her the dial is refinished.

This GMT does have a refinished dial, an aftermarket crystal and a service bezel. I also believe the bezel insert is aftermarket. Bid accordingly.

Ha!! What a horrible listing on so many levels. This is the kind of thing that scares off people who might want to start collecting vintage Rolexes.

A new hobbyist buying from mom and pop or small, local estate auctions, that sounds like a recipe for failure. I sure wouldn't buy a painting at a mom and pop estate auction unless it was verified 100%.

I don't get your point about scaring people off trying to start a collection. I've been around this hobby for over three decades now and don't know anyone that started off their collection buying at estate sales, which most of us know, they know very little about what they are selling.

I talked with one of the owners of this company and she was very sincere when speaking with her. If you want more details about them, give me a call Aaron and I'll fill you in. You might want to get to know them, you are close to the auction site.

Interesting - if I ran an on line auction house I'd think my reputation is absolutely everything JP.

To the point that any big ticket items (Rolex, Linn, Harrington, HD Shovelhead etc) I'd run past experts first as part of my sizeable 18% commission.

Having said that Phillips, Bonham's, Southebys do that and still get it wrong (occasionally/often)* delete as applicable, on your view of auctions !

Even our old friends at EBay now offer a guarantee such was the disdain over the years for not caring !

She did run it by experts...experts that she couldn't find. She contacted Rolex too. They looked at it and wanted $1,000 to check it out and send it to Switzerland.

This isn't a big name auction house Paul. Yes, the big name auction houses make wrong calls and misrepresentations all the time and they supposedly have experts on the payroll. This very small auction house does have their phone number in the listing and do answer the phone.

No need to be so harsh on this auction house. It is a small estate auction house run by two friends trying to make a little money to defray college expenses and other matters. She was very sincere when I spoke with her and has modified the listing at this time.

Just so you know, the high bidder contacted her yesterday to buy the watch and offered $10,000. He also was the first person to tell her the dial was refinished!

Seems this auction house takes no responsibility for its lots, just puts them up and caveat emptor. Lame.

Thanks for advising again Doctorluxe.
I do a similar gig at least an hour a day on C24 (they asked me, and I do it f.o.c., and as Swaini3 knows on an expensive fake/snide GMT insert that he reported to me, we got it removed within 3 hrs).
Ref below : comment edited.

It's 2 different sellers if that makes any difference:

1. Artifacts2go
Auction Manager
Lisa or Jane

2. The Time Traveler's Emporium LLC

Sorry, but my take is a little different, corrected the listing as soon as brought to their attention. Mistakes happen.

Ahh, didn't realize it was an aggregator. Not sure if it helps though.
