Rolex Airport Duty Free - SS watches spotted

I was flying through Dubai Duty Free Terminal 3 today and found the following watches. I didn't get the time to snap pictures cus my phone was on reserve battery.

3 Stainless steel Datejusts spotted up for grabs:

1/ DJ 41 blue stick dial with oyster bracelet domed bezel
2/ DJ 36 blue stick dial with Jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel
3/ DJ 41 Black stick dial with jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel

Short chat with the SA and he told me he already sold one SS DJ41 in the morning (didn't ask the exact config)

I asked him how often he got SS sports models and he told just 1 Submariner during the last 30 days.

Good to see things getting back to normal.

The DJ 36 in blue dial was sold infront of me. I saw the price it was AED 34,500 - IDK what the international market price is but it was around AED 2000 cheaper than boutique price in Dubai since the airport is tax free.

Thought I'd share this TRF members.

I regret that I did not grab a nice Rolex the last time I was waiting for my flight at the Bahrain airport.

I had not done my homework prior to travel, did not anticipate the opportunity at the airport, and my decision making became too clouded to pull the trigger in the available time.

It won't happen again.

I've traveled through Terminal 3 and Terminal 1 at Dubai airport at least 15 times in the last 2 years and this is the first time I've seen any SS watches on display for sale.
Absolutely agree with the fact that you never know when you can get lucky since the airport is the only place where allocation isn't allowed. They stock up everything they get.

Although I have to admit in 2020 when I was traveling through Dubai and enquired about sports models, the SA pulled out a Yachtmaster two tone in chocolate dial from under the display. It was in the original packaging. I never understood why it was hidden away.

So, how many TRF members just booked a flight to Dubai?

DJs aren't worth traveling out of the way for, imo. Unless you have to have it. I would like to think come this winter cases will be full of DJs. My AD had a TT champagne jubilee for sale in the window last week.

Things will not get back to normal if the current idea is to just buy whatever is available.

That may be right. Before all the hype, maybe 10 years ago now, dealers maybe sold a Sub a month and they were quickly replaced. Typically, every AD I visited had Sub, Sub Date and a TT in stock at any given time. It's tough to remember but in those days every nicer mall had three Rolex ADs all bursting at the seams with stock. Rolex was a luxury item, always relatively pricey and it was more of a special occasion type purchase with most folks owning just one. I remember when ADs cringed every time a DayDate showed up. That usually sat for a while in the case. Once it finally sold, another one turned up a week later.

I was in Europe in mid-July and we flew to the Switzerland airport and there was a Rolex store there and the models they had on display were exhibition only. It was right before I got my Rolex, so I was thinking I could buy one there, but exhibit only unfortunately. I was so disappointed.

is this true that they are not allowed allocation? Never heard of someone grabbing a daytona or other high demand item from the airport

I stay in Dubai and on regularly transit T1 and T3. Dubai duty free has direct allocations for Rolex inspite probably being under same local Ahmed Sdqquie AD ( or probably not)
last 2 years only seen DJ 28 or DJ 31 at the store in T3 nothing in T1 at all, so this is good news.

locally in dubai the AD prices are 5% vat over RRP by rolex and we dont get to see website prices as they are blocked.

But AD has a lot of stock which they are offering ( mainly high end DJ and WG basic DJ) which are 5-8% overpriced than watches from EU which are flooding the Gold Souq Shops.
if any one really wants a DJ just go to Gold Souq and get it.
I speak to most grey market folks here and they are buying most models below dubai retail AD prices fm EU and HK.

This is one of the more astute takes on the current market that I've seen. If people will take just about any Rolex in any combination when called or dropping in, this situation will continue.

I don't play that game. I want what I want and I tell my AD and he tries to make it happen. If I wait, I wait.

A collector would not simply buy anything that happened to be in the window.

The word for a person who would do that begins with 'f'.

And we all know what the 'f' word relates to.

This is good to know. I’ve been through Geneva & Munich Airport both in March of this year and the Rolex shops had nothing at all for sale. Munich staff were much more friendly and I tried a couple on. He said he’d love to sell me one but is under strict instructions that they are display only.

At AED 34,500 it is roughly USD $2,050 more expensive than the Rolex retail price where I'm from.

no way - you can buy a fluted bezel DJ 36 for $7400? Mind if I ask where you're from exactly?
For some weird reason I always thought Dubai prices were cheaper

Wonder if they just got a shipment? Flew through there in July and they only had 1 DJ31 with diamonds.

Saw a gent at my local AD with a Pepsi on, he told me just picked it up at the Heathrow duty free.

This is absolutely amazing. And there's no TAX on this purchase either?
