How do you lay a watch Crown-Right overnight without tipping over?

My Daytona keeps near-perfect time when I wear it all day and lay it down Crown-Right at night. Other positions are less accurate, so I want to keep laying it down Crown-Right.

My problem is (and maybe this is because the watch is on a soft leather strap) that it’s a balancing act every night! The watch seems to want to tip over, or gently tilt. Sometimes I want to open my drawer after putting the watch in, and have to spend time balancing it again.

Is there a simple pillow, or some other watch holder that I could buy that would secure the watch in that position? I’m not looking for something large. Just something I could strap the watch to, that could just stay put in my drawer.

Just use the flexible soft holder that comes with the watch in the box when new. That or a watch pillow...and that should help keep it steady.

Put a sock through it and lay it in your underwear drawer - simple and convenient and it works

How much does the time differ if you just lay it flat? If it's still within a few seconds per day I wouldn't bother

Let me dwell on this.

Have to agree and what difference a second or so difference out of 86400 seconds in a day defeats me, if anyone's life today is run to the exact second then I feel truly sorry for them.

In order to keep my watches in crown up or crown down resting positions, I use this piece of foam. No very sophisticated but it does the trick. I'm getting +1 s/d on average with my YM 116622 keeping it crown down at night.

Other watches prefer horizontal up to compensate a day of being worn, I use a stand for these.

Have to agree but today Rolex watches in general get a very pampered life.

Myself been learning about the history of the RWC for well over 50 years, and been wearing and enjoying wearing Rolex watches almost daily over those years. And all information supplied from my own 79 year old brain power, without the aid of loupes, nicknames, timegraphers, alignment points, protective film,AD relationship building, investment £$€ stuff, special cleaning cloths, special blocks to hold watch upright or downside up, timing phone apps, and the rest of todays Rolex watch toys.

What is crown-right? Standing on its side with the crown to the right?

I'm assuming he means this position, Brian. Plenty of folks leave it dial up or crown up, but this can also work best for some. Not sure why it's causing so much consternation on a watch enthusiasts' forum, of all places. It's one of the 'six positions'.

Got it Adam, thanks for the clarification.

Seems like a perfectly normal question, especially on a watch forum

If the drawer is deep enough to leave the original green box open, that holder also fits snuggly into it and is exactly the device I was thinking of .

Oh I see, if 12up position is what OP meant by "crown right", then I would use a stand and tight up the strap to it, or I would indeed place it in the watchbox with the cushion sitting vertically. Alternatively, I would use one of those Rolex plastic coffins and leave it in vertical position.

Of course a Rolex watch lives a pampered life, there are so many scare stories on this forum that once bought a Rolex watch now lurks in the darkest corners of the security box only worn on high days and holidays or when there is no chance of it being scratched or marked.

A Rolex is an investment nowadays not a watch to be worn and enjoyed, I love the threads where I see people actually wearing their watches and using them for the purpose they were designed.

I just put my watch over a small plastic lotion or shampoo bottle on my dresser.

I just sort of toss it in a leather tray on my end table. This is the most thought I’ve ever given to crown up/down/sideways. Just throw it on the table, and put it on the next day. If it loses an extra second a day, we’ll two months later you can adjust the time.

X2; I have a leather lined EDC tray that holds my watch, necklace, keys and wallet. Just toss everything onto it when I get home and call it a day. My 32 series movement in my JC is losing too much time anyways to worry about a second or two a day from crown up or down. I just don’t want to part with it for months at RSC so I’m waiting until I get my BLNR to send it in so I have another Rolex to wear while it’s gone lol.

would like to try resting mine at different positions to see if could get +/- zero a day but just haven't got the patience - so as mine looses 2 seconds a day I just set it at beginning of the month 30 seconds fast, then by the following month its no more than 30 seconds slow and works for me

I'm totally mental when it comes to my watches...

I just put them back in a display box every night and then grab them again in the morning with nary an adjustment nor a care in the world!

Crazy huh???

Any watch pillow you have will do the job. I use one for my leather straps.
