Now I understand the term "tool watch"; But I still didn't buy a Rolex
Time after time I would post snide comments when people mention the term "tool" when it came to watches. I never really understood the term when it came to most watches, especially simple 3 hander ones e.g. Tudor Ranger for example.
If I buy a hammer to push some nails into wood, and that's the ONLY function for the hammer, it is still a tool right?! As per the dictionary definition: "a device or implement, especially one held in the hand, used to carry out a particular function.". If a 3 hander is a tool watch, then aren't all watches, tools?! Anyway.... ...I still feel in terms of watches though, a tool watch is still something bought for a function in addition to telling the time e.g. GMT, dive bezel watch, step counting watch. Personally I needed to know the timezone for at least 1 region (actually 4/5) due to work and team members. So I opted for the Tudor Black Bay Pro: ![]() A few reasons for my choice, which also abide to the "tool" designation of a watch:
With the BBP, I love the 39mm size too, it is just right for my 6.5" wrist. There is no mistaking that the watch is thicker than most other watches, but the case back sits well into the wrist, which gives the watch a comfortable and satisfying seating (weight and thickness wise). The T-Fit clasp is great and provides a few mm of adjustment per 5 steps. I've taken 2 links out and sit the micro adjuster at step 2-3 depending on time of day. If I had the Black Bay Pro, Explorer II and the GMT II all in front of me to choose and no bias towards the brand name; I don't know which one I would choose, but the Tudor definitely would not be in last place; it just does the job at a good price and with similar features to the other two ![]() |

i have to say, this Tudor is very, very classy. and the yellow hand is the icing on the cake. i find the watch convincing.

Love the watch!
With regard to the discussion, sure mechanical watches are still tools by definition but they are far from the ideal tool in our current timeline ![]() |

Congrats on a great purchase. Imho, 'tool watch' = sporty, rugged, handsome, and functional. I think you succeeded on all counts. Enjoy your new Tudor. It's a fantastic tool watch.

Congratulations - Great Watch, I love mine. 42mm Explorer 2 looks ridiculously big on me, but the 39mm BB Pro is spot on.

Acquired the BB Pro few weeks ago and absolutley love it. Stunning retro looks and very comfortable to wear. I also love the weight of the watch on the bracelet which has a reassuring weight about it. My Sub and Zenith Chronomaster havent seen light of day since I picked up the pro. Im sure that will change though. Enjoy the watch.

Awesome photo, it looks as if it was made for you!
And what a sexy piece that watch is! The BB Pro is the watch that has grown on me more than most other watches with more and more time passing. So much so that I still consider getting one and breaking my self imposed rule to not go beyond 12 mm in height. Congratulations, Sir! |

I can tell you put a lot of thought into it...
I think the BBPRO is a solid choice, I can't fault you. I know thickness is the issue some don't like, but it looks great on you. Congrats |
