A White Gold Mercedes Benz?

This was emailed to me today. Is it for real?

Recession? What recession?

So, it seems that this "global recession" has not impacted negatively on everyone.
Check this out!
It's a Mercedes Benz owned by an Abu Dhabi oil billionaire (naturally).
Featuring the newly developed V10 quad turbo with 1,600 horsepower and 2800nm of torque
0-100km/h in less than 2secs, 1/4 mile in 6.89secs running on biofuel.
That is NOT stainless steel. It's WHITE GOLD!!

Ah, nothing special. It's built on a CLK320 body. Now if it had been an SL55 AMG, I might be impressed.

I've got a friend who's been over there twice and he told me alot of people over there have so much money it's unbelieveable. They buy things like these that most of us could't buy the tires. It's almost sickening to know we are buying their OIL: the Emirates have so much money we can't even imagine.

Is it solid WG or just a special kind WG paint job or coating to the base metal, something like vermeil.

A solid WG body would just be too soft and heavy to make it an appropriate material for a car body.

Just goes to show, just because someone has lot's of money does not mean they have the equal amount of taste!
I remember seeing in the 80's a picture of an Oil sheik's mercedes s class collection, I think there were around ten all painted in bright primary colours..Including matching full interiors!

I'm no engineer, but I was thinking the same thing about the weight.

Hi Einstein,

I agree that gold is twice the weight of steel but body panels are only a part of the weight of a car and I would guess that the parts on this Merc that are gold might increase the total weight by 400 - 500 kg and would be about the same as you taking three (or four) friends to Vlados for dinner.
I would expect it to be 18k gold as 9k would be too cheap for this buyer and also 9k is not as hard as a good 18k white gold mix.
I can't see these guys driving around in a car painted with white gold.

Just show me that authoritative statement from MB that says they made the body panels from pure 9kt White Gold? Then we don't have to guess, it wont just be a theory then will it Einstein

I highly doubt that is real. It is Mercedes SLR McLaren thats been painted probably. I've seen the treatment on everything from Audi's to Rolls Royces. Also, I've not heard anything about Mercedes developing a quad turbo V10. I like to think I keep pretty up to date on whats happening in the automotive world since cars are both my hobby and career, and theres no way that nothing has been released to the public on the development and placement of such an engine in such a car. I've also been under the hood of an SLR McLaren (not to work on one, a guy who lived close to my old job owns one, and he had taken it to a local detailing shop. A friend and I stopped and went and asked if we could take a look, and we got a full tour of the car!) The engine compartment on the car has no room to spare with the supercharged V8 in it, nevermind a quad-turbo V10.

Anyways, thats just my thoughts. Personally, I think its ugly as hell. I'll take one in black please!

Its an SLR with a Carbon fibre body, be interested to see if they really changed the engine. In standard spec 5.5 lt supercharged V8 propells it to 100kph in 3.7 sec

It really annoys me. People work their entire life, starting companys, trading stocks and so on. Spend years at university in order to obtain the necessary knowledge aquired in order for you to succeed in life. Yet many won't make it past a Rolex.

These guys however were born into the good life, a desert with no beneficial natural resources bar one. The black gold. Now, had the oil been worthless these guys would be as bad off as any other middle eastern country (without oil), but due to incredible luck, a select few can sit back and enjoy the extreme riches that come with oil. It's extremely unfair to hard working citizens and countrys all over the world.

And what do they spend it on? Cars made of gold, watches with more diamonds than we can imagine, man made islands out in the sea and so on.

The only good thing about us running short on oil is the fact that these people will find themselves having to work for their money.
