Omega discount -- Not?

I was in an Omega AD today looking at Speedmasters. I asked the SA what kind of discount she could give me and she said none. She said Omega does not allow them to do that any longer.

Is that true? Have you heard that?

(btw this is my first post).

Omega discount from ad

I recently purchased the omega aqua terra 150m small dial watch from international jewelers in alaska. Msrp is $6300 and i got it discounted for $5900. This was july 2022. Just saying i was happy with a $400 discount. Also, international jewelers paid the tax on my purchase.

When you decide what you want you may want to call around. Discounts on Omega will vary by model. Speemasters will not get the same discount as a Seamaster but you should be able to get some discount. Check with Topper Fine Jewelers in Burlingame, CA. They are an Omega AD.

It's unlikely that "Omega", which is the giant Swatch corporation, has told this AD what they can sell a watch for.

However, discounts are scarce in this economy no matter what you want to buy.

I bought a Seamaster 300M with discount from Topper Fine Jewelers in Burlingame, CA one week ago. Ask for Rob. Shipped next day air to my door. Bought a Breitling from him a couple years ago with discount as well.

Or just call some local dealers. Boutiques will not give a discount. Some AD’s will and some will not.

Boutiques definitely won't. When I was just at my AD this week, they were offering discounts on Omegas, just not on the newest novelties.

Discounts can still be had but you will have to shop around. Typically if no discount is offered they will include a strap or two at no cost.

To answer your questions:
1. No, not true. You were lied to.
2. Yes but see #1.

My last 4 omegas came with 0% discount! But they allowed me to get some nice Ones ilex pieces and a snoopy!
Play your game long term, not “hit and run”
If you are after one piece, then sure, try to get the most discount but if you’re building a relationship, it might pay off to stay with one place even if you don’t get a discount

Didn't they decrease the margins from MSRP to tighten discounting?

If its a boutique you won't get a discount...maybe a free strap and travel case but definitely no discount

If its an authorized dealer, you can and should be able to get 15%+ on a new speedmaster

I gifted a Speedmaster Saphire last year to someone living in Canada, I could not ship to them from where I live due to duties. I randomly called a jeweller in Canada in the same city and they gave me 10% off. It can happen but not with brand owned boutiques.

I was offered a 13% discount on a 3861 last Christmas.

I didn’t ask for a discount on my last piece this past June, I would’ve embarrassed myself

I haven't ever struggled with discounts in the UK. I just picked up the full Sedna 300M Seamaster from an Ernest Jones for £13,500 in the sale (list is £24,500). It certainly isn't as easy as it used to be to get discounts, although worth shopping around and giving your local dealer the opportunity with proof of discount from elsewhere.

That is a beauty! Congratulations. Was that price out the door or did you have to do the VAT stuff?

I was in Cancun/Cozumel in June and none of the duty free shops were doing any discounts. They actually quoted prices higher than MSRP in pesos, than offered USD "discount" which was right back at MSRP. They play with the exchange rate to make it seem like a good deal. Went back and forth with them- I intentionally played dumb (not hard for me to do ) just to see what they were doing. I offered to close the deal on a Seamaster for about 10% off real MSRP in USD and they said no, I walked out the door.

Buying from an AD with whom you have a relationship, you should get a decent discount. I bought an Aqua Terra last month, the exact model I’ve been eyeing for almost two years, my guy gave me a terrific price.

I picked this up from an AD with a 15% discount, but that was May/June so maybe things have changed.
