Posting Rolex for Sale

Is some sort different membership required to post a watch for sale on TRF?
I would gladly pay/ donate. Not sure where to find the info.

My advice: don’t try to sell directly to consumers. It’s a lot of money and being a seller is a full time job.

Instead sell to resellers (Davidsw, OCWatchguy, Takuya) and buy yourself piece of mind (for a % less on the amount you net).

What? Full-time job?

You have to do pretty much the same work selling to a dealer. You'd also need to write down all the details about your watch, take some photos and in the end send the watch. Really not much different than making a listing in the sales section.

This is good advice that comes with a weighty price ticket I suspect.

How much margin do you need to give up in reality to help a grey dealer like OC Guy pay his Maserati lease?

It would cost you an extra 25% of selling price I think.

For what it’s worth, I have done both.

If you sell directly to a member here, be sure they can be trusted to deal fairly. Preferably a longer term member who has bought before and has good references.

If you need cash quickly, selling to a trusted TRF dealer is a fast and cleaner deal as long as you feel the offer is fair.

And frankly, I think maligning a trusted dealer here is not fair, they do business and must cover overhead and business risk - but that’s just me.

hey guys,
very valid responses and I appreciate your input.
I do agree, it is easy to simply sale to known dealers on forum. i felt prices they offered were not reasonible in my situation. And i dont blame these dealers since they have to add risk factor in current market and cover their cost and make some money.
I always thought to start and try selling myself and build some history.

thanks all for your feedback. i do agree selling to reputed dealer is seamless with understanding that price may be more than 10% lower of what they sale on their site (assuming is it same config).

I think most used watch dealers try to work on at least a normal 30 percent margin. On the in-demand pieces in a rising market, it can be less, down to 10, as dealers are competing for product. The cost of doing business is just so high these days.

Agree. Cannot see a reputable dealer risking 90% of the cost of a watch to hope to make 10%. Particularly with a declining volatile market.

Peer to peer is pretty challenging in todays market. Everyone hitting me up for the most part is back pack flippers with a " send first, wire later " scenario. Buy to keep in this segment works best unless you're just going to cut your wrists at a wholesaler.
