Denied
Stopped by my AD today and asked to buy a 2nd flip lock clasp for my SD43.
I wanted to put Rubber B strap on it and be able to swap with having to mess with changing the clasp. Was told that Rolex would not allow it. Oh well, I guess I have to save my nickels for an YM42 White Gold. |

Surprising. I think the Rolex deployment is over $1000.00. Why not sell one.

OP, I guess you meant Glidelock, the clasp you can regulate in small increments. The Fliplock is the 26mm diver extension many owners liked to remove from their SD43, so Rolex decided to quit making it for this watch.
Not surprised they wouldn't sell you another clasp, especially if you told them you would mount it on a non-Rolex rubber band. They'll only replace your clasp with a new one if yours is broken. Maybe try to source a cheap preowned broken one and take it to the RSC for a replacement? If they ask, you fell off a bike. |

Not surprising. They wouldn't even sell me spare spring bars.

If the watch went in for service without a clasp, would they replace it for the customer?

It's not about not allowing it, it's about selling parts, which Rolex doesn't do except on a replacement basis. For an AD to sell a part to a customer they would need the serial/model number for RSC records and return the old parts.
They are loosening sales of bracelets in some instances, but they still do not have "parts houses" like you would see for appliances and the like.

It depends on who you talk to. My AD was more than happy to sell me an entire submariner bracelet without asking for a serial or model number. In fact they mounted it on my 5 digit explorer 2 after it came in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

In understand Rolex not wanting to sell parts to just anybody as they can be used in underhanded ways

You can only imagine how much deception would go on if anybody could buy parts at will. Original parts would be retrofitted to questionable watches. Hard enough to crush deceptive activity in selling without this extra complication.

What’s the part number for it?

Maybe try another AD, who also services Rolex watches. They do have parts accounts and can order practically anything for service, but will not let you buy anything that wouldn't normally come on the reference number of your watch.
Rolex has become very strict on parts in the past decade, but bracelets and bracelet parts such as endlinks, although they have become extremely expensive, could always be ordered through ADs. Maybe they have restricted access to the claps, because technically it would be extremely easy for someone with ill intentions to put a clasp on an aftermarket band and pass it off as genuine. There are parts that are exchange only and maybe this applies to individual clasps now, but from my experience not everything exchange only is send back to Rolex and/or disposed of. Putting another strap like a Rubber B on a watch, is a totally normal behavior for an owner. So in the end it comes down to the AD's willingness to ask Rolex for the part. I case they really have made individual clasps exchange only AND your AD strictly adheres to this policy, you might have to bite the bullet and buy a complete bracelet. I'd think really hard about how much I'd like the clasp in that instance, though, because I wouldn't spend 1k+ on one. Maybe also visit a watch fair. Dealers there might be able to help you source one for less than a full bracelet will set you back - although then, you will have to be very firm on how to identify fakes. |

No, what you're refering to is the Oysterlock. The Fliplock is the 26mm diver extension blade.

I'll just use the one I have, only a couple screws to remove. Should not be difficult.

You know, most of us change the clasp when we change to rubber. There is actually no need for two.
Yes, it's an extra step. But it does not take much time or talent. Just get the correct screwdriver. |

Extremely YMMV per AD, AD location, region.
Just keep trying. I get it, but I also wanted one so i can just swap in and out easy. It’s really dumb they don’t sell these to people who actually have the watch. Just limit # per serial. That’s it. |

ADs make up a lot of things they claim Rolex won't let them do.
Go to RSC directly. |

The Rolex boutique in Boston refused to sell me a second pair OF when I bought the WG steel dial Daytona. Idea was for my wife and I to share it. I bought them on Moda and had to buy a screwdriver. Meanwhile down the street AP will sell me a thousand straps and change them daily for me. Kind of annoying from Rolex after giving the 30k for a watch. Terrible service.
