First positive statements from an AD in a long time.

Just went to Tourneau/Bucherer in Arlington, Virginia. This time, when I asked about registering interest, they were very eager to take my details. To be fair, I have bought from Tourneau before, but I didn’t think they really care, being a large chain.

I made a comment about “I know the wait is basically forever but hopefully I eventually get the call”.

The sales lady kind of lowered her voice a little and shook her head and said “certain models are still very hard to get, but this particular model (SD43) isn’t one of them. For a repeat customer we should be able to source one pretty quickly - I think you’ll be surprised.”

Who knows, maybe just sales BS, but no AD has said anything even remotely encouraging to me in the last 2-3 years. So let’s see.

The also were fully stocked with Tudors, including the two-tone GMT on the bracelet. Almost pulled the trigger on that, but I think I’ll keep my powder dry for the Rolex.

I was at 3 ADs the past month in Orange County, CA. The one I saw this week was the most directly optimistic. Especially for a sub date. Something like a Cermit, not for a first-timer.

Sounds about right. A friend of mine went to an AD and picked up a SD43 as their first purchase. They had it readily available along with a DSSD. Bought it same day.

Hey how do you like Tourneau compared to Liljenquist? I found the sales experience at Liljenquist a bit too much like jewelry sales, low on the horology.

Not sure this is the next indicator of better availability. I got my SD43 after a couple weeks with no spend history.

When SS GMTs are coming fast I’ll be impressed. And I do think that might happen.

Did they have the FXD? Another dealer in the area wouldn’t even note my interest in it. (It’s probably my ideal Tudor but I would want to handle it in the metal before biting; that’s what has stopped me from buying it from a trusted seller selling at/below retail–I would never pay above for it).

Good luck sir. I'm almost two years waiting on an SD43 from one AD. Have spend history. So obviously, it ain't gonna happen there.

With a second AD (also some spend history) waiting 3 months now. Yet I hear time and again about people getting them quickly.

I'm giving the 2nd AD a couple more months, then I'll probably go grey.

Please keep us posted.

I only have gone into Liljenquist once, on a weekday afternoon, a few weeks ago. It was empty and the one salesman was very pleasant. He had the usual story about multi-year waiting lists and no way to ever know when, yada yada, but he did take my info for their list (in that case, a Sub Date).

I have always had great experiences at the Tourneau stores in NYC. Have not purchased from the one in Pentagon City, but the staff seems to be trained to the same standards. There is nothing like the experience at the 4-floor flagship at Madison & 57th in NYC, though.

I didn’t specifically notice one, but I wasn’t looking for it either.

I found the same thing in Sydney this week, lots of Tudors, every model, lots of IWC, Lots of Breitling, and a fairly good number of Seiko spring drive, various models.

Lots of BlancPain's too !

I'm completely ready for crypto to be over, and it seems like NFTs already are.

I directly blame crypto for keeping gold prices down over the last 4-5 years, and while at the end of the day value is really just what people assign to something, at least gold is something you can hold in your hand, is useful, and has 3000 years of human history behind it.

As for the SD43, my AD got at Rolesor one for me in just 30 days this past March. One previous Rolex purchase. I visited them this week and they said they're still able to allocate everything they receive pretty much immediately. They're also fixing to expand and add a new 1000 sq foot Rolex showroom.

Yeah, my one experience there wasn't great but it was years ago so staff may have changed. I'll call about the FXD.

They have to find a way to keep you engaged. All you can do is keep in touch with your AD and hope for the best.

SD43 seems to be trading around retail now so all the flippers will avoid buying it. IMO it's one of the best watches Rolex makes. VERY UNDERRATED.

As much as I think the SDCyclops was a misstep, I think someone is considerably better off buying one at retail than buying any model at a markup.

Compared to what people were hearing a few months earlier, I would call this a very positive statement.

Side not
Why would you invest in gold?
What is the value proposition besides a speculation

Tourneau Pentagon City Mall is a great AD to express your interest. Kevin is a terrific SA and Robin is a professional and compassionate store director. They spend time with you and listen. No promises, but definitely worth stopping in to discuss your desires and goals. Great selection of other watch brands (like Omega, Cartier, Tudor and others) and preowned inventory, which are slightly above what I would think is market value.
