Icon5 DD40 still hard to get from AD?

I'm in the market for a rose gold DD40 with the chocolate baguette dial. Should I be able to order this from the AD at retail with a reasonable wait time under let's say 6 months? Or am I better off going grey and paying the mark up?

Ask your local AD, he has the answers.

I've asked and haven't gotten much of an answer so before I try other ADs I figured I'd ask here for people who have already been down this road and who have more experience to chime in.

Easy answer for me..
It depend how bad u want it..
if u can wait , yes from AD..
if u want it next day on ur wrist , yes from trust seller
But I think DD not really hard to get at all, last month my AD offered me a Roman chocolate dial , but I passed it ..

If you can wait a few more months, do it. DD's were always under retail and sat up until last year. I bet you'll be able to find a grey selling one at a pretty good discount after Christmas.

Even better I think if you can wait until next summer. White collar layoffs are already starting (Pepsico and Intel this week) and expected to pick up after Christmas. Summer is typically a slower time at the ADs with both last and next Christmas being far away and people distracted with travel and summer vacations.

You can pretty much buy new white gold subs for 10k under msrp right now on the grey market. Canary in the coal mine.

Unfortunately no one out side of your AD will be able to answer this. There are just to many factors to take into account. Everyones experience will be different, and thats the only thing you can count on. The biggest question in my opinion would be the Tier of your AD, Then how many people are ahead of you waiting for that watch. Not to mention your relationship with them. Answer those and your still at the mercy of Rolex production

The 41 day date was a failure, then they presented the 40mm ones, which nobody wanted and in fact were discounted by 40%. I don't like it, the day date for me comes from 36mm, had it been 39 maybe it would have been different. If you use your brain and do not show yourself too much in love, it is possible that they will return to be offered at a discount. The market is shrinking but these 40-day dates have collapsed.

You can get that Day Date with baguettes for under MSRP on the gray market. I would just do that now

MODA on FB. There is also a 2018 smurf with plastics still on it for 33k ask on the breitling forums private. I bet it could be had for 30 or even less.

Yay! Layoffs! Watch forums are only place where people seem almost giddy about the decline in the global economy.
Just so it will be easier to get a watch…

Just so we're clear, I'm giddy about no such thing. I state it as a matter of fact. Rolexes are largely purchased/sought by white collar, upper middle class people in the United States. If they lose their jobs they're less likely to say yes if the AD calls and the list moves faster. Eventually the list runs out and maybe watches start making it into cases. I'm in the same boat, upper middle class and dependent on my white collar job, other than the fact that my business tends to do very well during downturns. When things are amazing everywhere else is when I have to worry, but the fact remains, if I lost my job I wouldn't be wanting to buy a Rolex right then.

Just as I don't support war at all but when Ukraine kicked off and deliveries to Ukraine and Russian ADs stopped, incomings seemed to increase here. Supply and demand is a valid topic of discussion on this board.

I was offered one a month ago (even though my request was RG Rootbeer). I was told different SA's called their clients for a week before it was sold. Sharing info for what it is worth.

DD, even with baguettes, is not hard to get. I was offered one in the peak, as a walk in. You should never pay a premium for a DD, frankly.

I've been asking for a 36mm YG DayDate (not even a fancy or green or off catalog dial) and it's crickets since July.

AD's weren't getting hardly any PM pieces mid summer.

Easier for some more difficult for others. Where I'm from there is only one AD and no gray market.

Prices at MODA are mainly wholesale price, so you can get it at cheaper price than TRF trusted sellers.

I don’t think you can get it BNIB $10k cheaper for PM Sub.

Fascinating seeing some of the responses about this. I've been trying to get a 40mm Chocolate Day Date all year & still no luck. In that time I've been able to get multiple other Rolexes from different ADs but not that one. Makes no sense considering it was one of the most widely available pieces at discount years ago. I've been told that by more than one AD that they have a list of clients that are still waiting on a chocolate 40 DD.
