The new adventure with Grand Seiko

Hello,
I would like to start my adventure with GS at the beginning of next year. I would like to learn more about the manufacture and some suggestions for models for my first purchase. Photos are welcome.

I would 2nd Teddy Baldasssarre’ YT channel. His macro photography shots got me seriously considering the SBGA413. Stunning watch; the size on me and bracelet were not to my liking though.

GS is known for their spring drive movements, arguably the most advanced movements in the world and an incredible combination of mechanical and electrical. I’d opt for a spring drive watch, but many people really dig their pure mechanical movements too.

Finishing is top notch on almost all watches. I don’t think there is a GS that doesn’t have zaratsu finishing, but someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

As far as clasps and bracelets go, something you’ll need to “accept”. Very few at all (if any) have micro adjustment. Almost none have a great taper. All have excellent finishing. There are a few clasps that I’m a fan of, but many can be quite chunky. If you can accept the bracelets, look for a dressy piece that comes on a strap.

Lastly, the time only or time/date watches are the ones that you’ll find have a slimmer profile. 12mm range. The watches that have additional complications usually are in 13-14mm+ range. So if you’re concerned about thickness, I’d not venture past time/date.

First is to figure out if you want quartz, spring drive, or high beat. They are all wonderful in their own way.
I'd also look at the case. The "seasons" models have a gorgous GS62 case, while GS is known for their sharp edged highly polished GS44 case. THere are also more generic cases, like in the snowflake.

then of course dial texture and color.

Its quite a rabbit hole...
