Multiple vs One

I have two options here as only have finite funds available.

Option 1 (collection)
Sub
GMT
Daytona OF
Datejust

Option 2
Platinum fluted DD with romans

This is my thought process so far.

Option 1
Variety
Works with all outfits. Casual (OF, Sub, GMT), Dressy (DJ)
Easier to swap out one for something else and keep core collection (looking at you GMT coke

Option 2
Wow. What a watch
Platinum is stealthy enough to look good with everything
Dinging a sub is prob a lot less painful than dinging a platinum DD

Anyone have any input?

My two cents...get the DD. Go for what you really want vs quantity. IMO

Multiple. I know I will never be a one watch person. Having a watch off the wrist for a while helps me appreciate it more when I strap it back on.

Good luck.

Option 1, it’s great to have a choice.

Multiple if you are like me and love diversity. While the Platinum DD is the pinnacle of Rolex, I think you would wish you had a change of pace. Just my 2 cents.

I would go with option 2, go with everything with class.

I like variety but hate leaving pieces unused for months/yrs. I’d go with two and reassess down the road.

Always multiple. Too many have tried the consolidation to one and never stuck. I would argue IF you had to only have one then something like a SS Sub is a better choice than a PM. A “wow” watch as your one and only is fraught with issues.

Multiple - too many nice watches there to lose for one, even as nice as that one is.

I vote option 2. I personally am a one watch person and having a Platinum DD as my travel buddy in life would be awesome.

Multiple. Option 1. Reason why is there's some pretty amazing watches in option 1. If we were talking about a collection of not nice watches that weren't Rolex's vs 1 Rolex, I'd say 1 Rolex. But in this case, give me the multiple Rolex's vs 1.

I started with many, consolidated to the PT DD40 motif dial for a year as my only alongside my Garmin watch for sports activities. Realized the DD wasn’t ideal for many situations. So sold and back to a few. DSSD, OP, Speedy, and recently added back the PT DD40 Roman dial as I missed the DD and had the funds for all. I’d recommend having variety and adding the DD later on when/if funds permit.

I would love to be a one watch person. And hope to do so one day.
But just last week I ordered another.

multiple in this case but maybe there's a sweet spot in between both options if you trade some for a wg day date?

Keep the Sub and flip the rest towards the DD.

Start with one. Sub or GMT—and then go from there

I couldn't standardise to a Pt DD. It's too narrow a choice for me, but you should do what suits you best.

Crickey. Massive value collection here. My
Advice: pause, wait and see and don’t jump. 3 steel better than pne platinum imo.

Also, I have never met a true TRFer who could only do one platinum “or” several steel. It’s never so simple.

Trading everything in for a grail isn't the end of the world. It lands a grail and gives an opportunity to start a fresh collection.

OP. My advice is just buy a sub or GMT. Wear one watch for awhile and enjoy it. Then after 6-9months consider what you want next, could be the DD or another sports watch. The journey is part of the experience. Take your time and enjoy it.

I own a DD platinum and would not want it to be my only watch but I am so glad it’s available when I want to wear it

I have settled on and accepted that I like having “several watches.” I have never understood the folks on here that want one of every Rolex. Also, I have certainly had enough watches over time to pay for several platinum DD’s but I could never rationalize spending that much on one piece. I would stick with what you have for now if you’re actually wearing them all.

I like the variety of watch designs and so the metal in which they are made is of secondary importance. The day date is beautiful in design and IMHO would be no less beautiful if it was in stainless steel.
