Trade in 5270G-019 non chin blue and 6119R for one 5970R?
Hi, I have been hesitating for a while, whether I should trade in my Patek 5270G-019 blue non chin dial plus a 6119R for a 5970R?
The 5270G blue non chin is a very beautiful watch but it wears rather large on my wrist. The 5970R wears perfectly. The 5270G non chin blue also seems rarer, at least on Chrono24, only having 2 listings over current 188 5270 listings, representing only 1% of all 5270s listed on Chrono24 (5970 - shortest production run for PCC - 2800 pcs). I also have a slight preference for the 5970G over the R as the G is easier for daily wear but an R is the only one available where I live. Would appreciate your thoughts on the trade. Thank you |

I would. The 5970 is the best modern Patek PCC. Perfect in nearly every respect. The tough question would be whether to hold out for the 5970G (also more expensive than the R). The R is more beautiful but the G is more wearable. Tough call, but either way you win as the 5970 is the best IMO.

The blue 5270G-019 is one of the best executions of the 5270 series in my view, and I don't see many listing of this specific model out there. I would not do the trade. Just FYI, although the 5970 has a more balanced look, Patek finds the Day-Month apertures too small and not user-friendly for older customers with poorer eyesight, hence they enlarge the Day-Month apertures in the 5270 and as a result, the chrono and second sundials now appear below the crown where people say it looks unbalanced. I think it has now strike the balance between legibility and aesthetics though. Datograph also has the same unbalanced look but it has received so much plaudits from watch collectors including Philippe Dufour. Another thing to note is that the 5270 is more slim although it is 1mm bigger in diameter.
I would keep your 5270G blue non-chin if I were you. I love that piece. |

I’m strongly in the “don’t do that trade” camp.
Your 5270g is incredibly rare with the no chin and blue dial. 5970 is wonderful but would prefer the G or P executions over the R. Even those were trading wildly lower and about even with what the 5270 would/should be. I personally own the 5270g-018 with no chin and find it damn near perfect. I believe the R to be the wrong one to trade for if the 5970 is your preference. J is written to be the least produced in the series. The P is in another league. G is incredibly versatile. |

IMO, the 5270G-019 is the most beautiful 5270 out there today. I know the majority love the salmon P, but the dial of the salmon P is very underwhelming in the flesh. 5270G is the only blue PCC ever made by Patek and the sunburst blue is really well executed. It is the exact same blue dial as on the 5738P. The only blue dial that could really compete with the 5270 blue is the smoked blue dial on the 5170P. The contrast of the white printings on the sunburst blue dial of the 5270G is really attractive. My only reason to contemplate letting go of it is because of the case size (and yes I find the 5970 dial layout more pleasing, with the left and right subdials aligned with the pignon). But overall, technically, the PP in house movement on the 5270 with many progress compared to the Lemania is undeniably a plus too. It’s not an easy decision. If it was the 5970G, I think it would be easier |

If the 1mm size difference is really a deal breaker, then you have to do what you have to do.
I chose 5270 over 5970 very explicitly. For me: 5270 has better diameter/height ratio Much more legible display - aperture size, cleaner sub dials Significantly better (and fully in house) movement - see the multiple Patek patents More elegant case, without the corrector pushers sticking out I would, personally, keep and love your 5270. On the colored vs white gold point, I don’t agree with the perspective that colored gold is somehow limiting or must be formal. I wear yellow and rose gold casually all the time. Out and about in jeans and a blue cotton jumper. |

While I find my 5970p really hard to read and a bit small - it to me is so much better than my 5270. It’s just the quintessential modern Patek to me - Thierry’s first baby

Good God. Please keep the 5270 and wait for the right 5970. The R is just too much.

As mentioned previously, the 5270 non chin blue looks amazing, but putting a 5970 on my wrist, it seems that the 5970 looks more proportional overall, the case size, the dial design.
My dilemma is having to let go the 5270 and 6119R to get one 5970, not sure if the value proposition is right. The 5970R actually looks very nice too (but the 5970G with the brushed silver dial is to me the ultimate modern PCC (that said a 5004G or P with the same silver brushed dial is also a rather perfect watch but it’s a different level). |

I would keep it. You are essentially trading 2 watches for one which is primarily due to 'aesthetic', which is not value enhancing IMHO. But if this is something which your heart yearns for, then just do it. There's no right/wrong, and end of day YOLO. Enjoy whatever makes you happy(ier)... Cheers & keep us posted on this dilemma :-)

Curious to anyone who knows and or has seen in person, is the blue on the older chin dial the same exact sunburst blue on the later no chin dial? The chin dials often look more matte in photos.

Also it is the exact same sunburst blue as on the 5738P, 3738G/J, and 5960P. |

Even though officially there is only 1mm difference between the 5270 and 5970 visually it is very obvious

Difficult question.
I like the balance of the 5970 I like the blue of the 5270 and see it as an easier daily wear. Can’t decide.

This is a difficult question, I like those rose gold 5270/5970 very much and understand your view on the 5970's very interesting size on a smaller wrist as I've also not decided today which one I would prefer.
However, when you say that the 5970G is the one you really prefer, I wonder if you won't regret that move (for the 5970R) after a while (vs waiting for a 5970G opportunity). |

I have a 5164R and the 6119R and they have seen little wrist time (actually I have never worn the 6119R. It was forced upon me by my AD when they allocated me a 5164A). So even though how beautiful the 5970R is, I think I will not wear it as often as I would if it were a G. |

Tough one but on balance I wouldn't.
I will probably pick a 5970 up at some point but that totally depends on the market prices as currently they are a bit silly and I have limits. I have a 5270 and I've been looking for a 3970 for a while, for me, a very nice balance of past and present, two distinctly different watches, especially in size. If anything I love the fact that the 5270 is the first in house PCC Patek has done and its style and flare is attractive to me. Anything patek takes time. |

Good call to wait for 5970G. If you love rose gold then I would do 5970R in a heartbeat.

Good day to all, I have finally pulled the trigger on the 5970R this weekend and am very pleased with the decision. The rose gold is very nice on the 5970, not too red, looks vintage! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
