Turning down a watch!

New to the forum and looking for advice on a possible purchase. I currently have a blue face yacht master I bought in the grey market because I was impatient and I recently got a call for the slate face at my local Ad. I have a few watches registered at this Ad so I would rather get another watch in my list then getting another color yacht master. My SA knows I bought the blue yacht master and he still offered me this one so is it ok to pass on it? I don’t want to buy it and be blocked from actually getting a watch I want more for three months. Thanks in advance.

If it's not what you want, turn it down so others can enjoy it. They already know you have YM, so they will understand.

Yea only thing that worries me is not getting offered another watch in the future.

Rolex and ADs are enjoying these threads. What a time to own a boutique.
OP, spend history adds up at many retail locations. Sometimes it goes nowhere.
Role the dice.

Yes, I think it would be fine to pass. Especially since your SA knows you have a blue one already, you can just tell him that is exactly why you're passing. I'm sure he will understand. Also....Welcome to TRF!

Better that than taking and flipping, or taking something you don’t want.

How easy is flipping right now? It feels like the grey dealers have been caught out a bit with inventory as the secondary market prices are falling?

Amazon laying of 18,000 today, and it's doubtful they're warehouse workers.

No sense buying the second YM. Let someone else enjoy it and wait for the watch you really want. I would think the AD would be fine with that since you already have the blue.

Welcome, OP. What he said ^^

I turned down my Sub Date twice over a 6 month period as life happened. Not only did my AD appreciate the honesty, she even squirreled away that very watch and offered it to me when I enquired again.

Buy what you want, pass on what you do not want. If the AD does not offer you something else in a reasonable time frame then find another AD or buy Grey again. It is all about the watches.

Sounds like the blue dial is the one you really wanted, stick with that.

Yes, it's ok, and a smart play if you don't need two, considering your SA knows you already purchased a YM. Thank him and tell him you want variety in your collection, and you appreciate the option to purchase, but you will wait for the next one on your list.

Thanks for the welcoming and advice everyone. I have no need for the flip just just an honest question plus local grey dealers are not buying at even retail prices anymore. I’m going to pass on the ym and hope my previous purchase history helps as well 🤞.

I recently had a similar situation.

I had been waiting for almost 2 years for an SD43 from my primary AD (where I have purchase history). I went to another local AD as a walk in first timer there, and expressed my interest in same. The SA there was very nice, showed me around, and bluntly said - it could be a couple years!

As it turns out, the SD came in finally at my primary. So of course I bought it. Lo and behold, a MONTH later, the SA at the AD where I had walked in, called me, and offered me....the SD! I explained truthfully, and asked her to keep me in mind for the YM Rhodium. She appreciated my honesty, and I'm sure she had no trouble moving that SD to another person.

Visit them in person and wear your YM. Tell them you’d like to take a look before deciding. Having them side by side you can demonstrate having 2 wouldn’t make any sense and you’d rather have the watch go to someone else and you’d rather wait for a different piece. Go in person. They’ll appreciate it.

I think that would only be a concern if he was stuck with it in inventory until someone came in off the street to buy it. When you decline he'll probably have it sold to the next person in about 30 seconds, you aren't leaving him high and dry.

Pass was the right move in this case. It is not like ADs are ordering most watches requested these days. They just get them as they get them. I think that has changed and they would be crazy to treat customers as if they had put in special orders.

I am curious OP, what do you mean by three more months specifically? Is hat how long you waited originally?

Which color do you like best? Seems like that's the logical decision here.

Don’t worry. They have plenty of customers who will buy it.

I turned down a BLNR because I really wanted the 126610LV, and got offered the watch I really wanted 3 months later. Still waiting on another offer for the BLNR though...

I much prefer the slate dial over the blue dial yachtmaster. So I would buy the slate dial and resell the bLue dial. But that is just me. Do whatever makes you happy.

No worries, sooner than later the buyers will be the one choosing the AD again!
