Pics of my new watch, and a question!
Here are some pics of the watch my dad handed down to me (to keep my Omega Seamaster Professional company). According to the Serial number it appears to be from around 1968. It is a Datejust 1601 with a 6251H band.
My question is, what is the bezel made from? Browsing the web it appears that these bezels are usually made from 18K white gold. Is this the case for all of them? If not, is there any way to distinguish between the materials? Thanks for your help!! |

My understanding is that fluted bezels (like yours) are gold and machined bezels are stainless.

Yes, as stated fluted bezels are 18k gold either white or yellow depending upon the model.
The 1601 is a very good model, very reliable and rugged.

Very nice DJ. And it looks to be in pristine condition too! What a great gift from your Dad.

Welcome to TRF, buddy.
Beautiful gift, cherish it forever. That bezel definitely looks FLUTED to me - NOT engine-turned.....so that would make it 18K White Gold. JJ

Thanks for the responses everyone! Yes, it is in great condition--It looks even newer than my 5 year old Omega! But now, since I don't have a watch winder (and this Rolex has no quick date change), I'm going to have to rotate wearing the watches frequently!!
