Pepsi vs nautilus

Was at the barber and i noticed the fellow in the chair was wearing a 5711. He also was a proud owner of. 88 Porsche 911.

Being a watch guy i tell him nice watch, he responds ty, i noticed your pepsi.

Made.me think Even if you own the most sought after watch in patek, pple.still notice the rolex.

I would think Rolex GMT with its bright colored bezel is immediately noticed by any watch person as it stands out. Whereas the 5711 not nearly as much.

To comment and notice Mass production watch vs wearing the most sought after watch seemed impressive to me

Nice little interaction. I prefer the BLRO over the Nautilus.

Pepsi vs nautilus

noticing a Pepsi is fine. I’ve had both and they’re great pieces. Just different price points and offering though. If you have a 5711 at least you truly know what your talking about. There’s a lot of people wearing Rolex that don’t know about horology as much you’d expect.

Pepsi is definitely a popular and well known watch. Any watch enthusiast will instantly recognize and know what it is! Even lots of non-watch people will recognize it too.

Love the 5711. Talk about an impossible to get watch at retail, the nautilus has to be the holy grail of hard to get.

I was wearing my blue dial Sky-Dweller in the airport a couple days ago when a gentleman got out of his seat just to compliment my watch.
A fellow watch enthusiast I, of course, asked what he was wearing. A gorgeous blue dial DateJust. Watch people notice other people's watches.
Nice to recognize each other's gorgeous timepieces.

On the internet I was never a nautilus fan. I saw a rose gold one in the flesh at our table at Milo in Las Vegas and I was blown away. Truly a sight to behold and exuded quality and refinement.

Rolex is the most common mid to high end watch brand in the world. Any watch guy, and many non watch people, will recognize the brand.

Also the Nautilus is the right watch to wear when driving a Carrera 3.2

PP is a great watch if you truly love its design but thats not always the case. There is a very good chance the guy wearing the Rolex just simply doesn't like or want a PP. Assuming why one wears a particular watch is best not done.

OP while I don’t own a 5711 I do own a 5980. My opinion is as follows:

Non watch aficionados (99% of the population) have no idea what a Patek is and much less bat an eyelid when they see one. Namely, because they have zero idea of what it is. In my under radar view this is perfect.

However, the aforementioned 99% “do” know what a Pepsi is thanks to over hyping and social media which has force-fed the masses about Rolex and perceived desirability.

I know which I prefer from the two scenarios, but I still own Rolex despite lamenting the contemporary connotations about the brand.

I personally do not like the Nautilus. While I can admire it from afar, it has never sang to me.

Maybe a bit grumpy today but -
- looking down at a 5711 one sees a miniature boat porthole
- looking down at a Pepsi one sees a holiday display of colors

Love the Nautilus!! Have seen a few IRL, they’re stunning. Getting it at retail is not even imaginary, so don’t think about them much.

This.

There's so much to like about it but it looks like a television wearing ear muffs because of that protuberance.

I love the Nautilus, but I'll admit probably for the wrong reasons. I love that it's a PP and kind of the ultimate sports watch and something I'd actually be able to wear as I'm not a huge fan of dress watches. A bit of a desire to flex is there, yes. So would love to own one one day if possible. But not a huge fan of the design, in that regard I prefer the RO, VCO, or heck even the previous gen IWC Ingenieur (!!!).

As for the Pepsi, I think it's the best most iconic watch from the best most iconic sports watch company, so I guess in some regards I think THAT should be the best sports watch out there.

I notice all sorts of watches, cheap, expensive, and everything in between. It's because I like watches. They interest me. It's not a hierarchy thing.

Entertaining watching people jump to conclusions and never missing a beat to hate on the Nautilus. A watch guy commented on one of the most hyped watches (GMT) that was pretty much all that happened

It's nearly impossible now because it's discontinued. The last remaining ones will still flow out here and there.

But, the game is not impossible, it just costs way more than Rolex. You also can get a glimpse of how the Rolex AD games started. It is very very difficult to "get lucky" in the last 5 years, unlike Rolex, who makes 20x more watches.

Generally buying a sports Patek the last 5 years without history involves a spread out roadmap of other pieces in the collection. Even if you are a regular patron, usually dealer will want to bundle you with jewelry. Unless you have already been a Patek client for years, specific to that boutique or invited to the factory, you are not considered as someone who has a realistic shot at anything sports.

2 dealers offered acquaintances of mine the new Patek 5712r last year. Both were asked to buy jewelry alongside 5712r. Neither left with the watch. So, it's really not impossible. Just impossible for our wallets.

Once you get into those games, pretty much all Rolexes look extremely inexpensive and available.

I'd always choose the relatively pedestrian Pepsi over the PP 5711; the Nautilus is unremarkable except for its price tag.

Today everyone knows both due to social media etc. esp in places like major cities. Whatever floats your boat…I have a couple of Nautiluses and a pepC too. I love them all and my daily driver is a 118206. Some know and others don’t at all. I think it’s nice two in the hobby can appreciate the choice of the day.

I agree with you OP. The Pepsi on jubilee is one of the most recognisable SS Rolex (or watch?) in my view. I can always see one from afar.
