serial help ?

I was shown a 'Steve McQueen' explorer II with a Rolex guarantee dated 26/8/1975 stamped Watches of Switzerland, 16 New Bond Street, London W1Y 9PF. However the guarantee is not punched and it has " 15H 829 new" handwritten in front of Montre No. The owner I know bought it new but what does the serial number mean ? is it the model no ? Thanks for your help as I am considering buying this watch as it is all original.

No. The model number is between the lugs at the upper or 12:00 side of the case. The serial number is between the 6:00 lugs.

The model number of the Explorer should be 1655 and the serial number should be a seven digit number. Here is a link to production dates by serial number http://www.oysterworld.de/1/index.htm

You asked this question a couple of weeks ago and those numbers don't seem to mean anything..

You need to take the bracelet off this watch and verify the serial number stamped against the case.

If this "paper" does not have a serial number on it that matches the serial number found on the watch, then there is no way that you could say that they go together.
