Purchasing NOS.

If you could purchase a 2001 Rolex that has been freshly serviced for the same price as a pre owened 2009 Rolex for the same price would you do it? The watch has not changed noticeably in the 20 years.
Thanks.

A watch that has been serviced over a watch that needs a service for the same price?

Yes.

Yes, especially if the 2001 is genuine NOS and unworn.

Is NOS "New Old Stock" or "Need of Service" in this example?

If the 2001 is truly new old stock, but serviced, this seems a no-brainer.

I wouldn’t consider any watch NOS if it’s been serviced. Just my $.02

Neither of these are NOS

Condition is usually paramount, so it is likely that the fresh service is the more attractive option.

However, that isn't the whole story. The asking price in either case may be unrealistic so you still need to look at price/value.

I think we need to know the actual watch. But if the 2001 has not actually been put into service, it’s a no brainer to get that one.

Is this necessarily true? If the watch was never sold, it’s conceivable that an AD serviced it because it’s a 20 year old watch. That wouldn’t keep it from being new?

I’m always curious about this. Is there some 1655 sitting in an ADs safe that was never sold. How much would they have to sell it for. Would a warranty still be in effect?
