Depends on the condition.
Both watches were produced side by side for a decade and share almost everything except the jump-hour movement, that is only found in the GMT II. The GMT II was also available with the red/black bezel insert. If either of these features are important to you, then the choice is easy.

I had the 16700. I liked the gmt text better without the II :)
I can post pictures to share if you would like :) |

16710 for sure! The 16700 doesn’t have the independent hour hand adjustment which makes it a 2 vs. 3 time zone watch. I personally think the 16570 is even a better GMT than the 16700 for that reason.

Personally, I think the Jump hour is essential (for me) on a GMT watch. For that reason I would pick, and have, the 16710. Date setting is no issue. Whizz the hour hand round twice etc.
But that’s just me |

I prefer to use the 16700 and just work off the bezel for second timezone like the Panam pilots did 1950s-80s :)

16700 has the quick date with a unique movement, the case is thinner, and is the last GMT Master. Easy choice for me.

I prefer the jump hour hand over the quick-set date. Setting the date on a 16710 is done with the jump hour hand by turning the crown three or four complete turns while pulled out to the jump hour hand position. For me, changing time zones or going from standard time to DST or vice versa without hacking is a huge advantage over the quick-set.

Another vote for the 16700. Had one, sold it, regretted it.

Condition is everything. Get the one in the best condition unpolished would be a bonus. If you find two watches in the exact same condition I would take a Luminova Solid End Links 16710

Both are great and if you can't have both, I'd go with the 16700. The GMT Master dial is so pure.

16700. I prefer the quick set date over the jumping hand. Personally it always felt kinda silly the jumping hour hand. Felt a little silly you had to go around the world a few times with the hand to change the date rather than a crown position. It’s a GMT, the bezel moves already which takes care of the 2nd time zone bit. Irritated me anyways.

Changing the date ahead one day with the jump hour hand is fine at the end of the months that need it, but if the watch stopped on, say, the 5th and you want to wear it on the 20th, you have to jump it through 30 x 12-hr cycles.

16700. I think it's cool that it's the very last of the GMT-Master line!

I own a 16613 Submariner "Bluesy", a Daytona and a Day-Date, one of the aspects that kinda took me by surprise with the Rolex 16700 GMT was how elegantly it sat on my wrist.
Very thin, solid like a Rolex, but I'd say hands down it's the most comfortable watch I've ever worn. It's so slim, fits under the cuff, love the lugs holes, but mainly, did I say it's slim?? lol And IIRC correctly, you can't read 3 times zones on any GMT II simultaneously. Picked this up recently, and it's a pleasure to wear, so my vote is 16700... ![]() |

For sure 16700 the last GMT, quickset date function is so important if you have many watches and enjoy switching watches to wear. How often do we need three time zones on traveling.

For me, the 16700 is the one:)
Last of the GMT Master and this faded bezel won me over:)
