Spend my money

- beginner enthusiast
- Current “collection” TH Carrera day date, Tudor BB black dial blue bezel, Hamilton Khaki all black so far
-time to get into Rolex so….

1) My likes: New style black bezel Daytona, Pepsi or Batman, DJ blue dial
2) budget: first watch 30k ish more or less and I’ll build from there.
3) im modest , own a business I want to be somewhat discreet as everyone wears Apple Watches, but I enjoy the fruits of my labor. I drive a X5M comp for reference (126k). No rainbows for me basically if that makes sense.

- is Chrono24 where I buy from? AD is out I’m sure.
- just go for Dayton or Batman and DJ (I know not 30k together but it’s like 2 for 1 in my mind)

Bullets >paragraphs I hope 🤣🤣🤣

Check out the trusted sellers here. The black bezel Daytona is readily available on the secondary market, and you should first find out the exact range a complete newer example is selling for and find your best deal from there.

I guess the question is, for collectibility, is there a better choice between the 3, Daytona, Batman, DJ or just simply preference

Welcome to the forum

You have alot of options another one to consider is a blue dial skydweller which is currently priced pretty well.

as far as online dealers, DAVIDSW is great, he is not the cheapest, but he is incredibly reliable and watches meet or exceed expectations on delivery.

In The NY/NJ Area, Tarrytown jewelers in NY will also have a large selection on what your looking for and offers good pricing and service.

Good luck with your search

Collectibility = Daytona is King

So many options to choose from, as a new member you’ll need to do some digging so you can get the one you really like.

First off, welcome to the forum!

Since you have about $30k to spend (if you have the patience) I would start by introducing yourself to a local AD or several, especially if you have any Rolex only boutiques within a reasonable drive. Start with the DJ since that’ll be the easiest. If you acquire one at MSRP you can then start the wait for a BLNR since you’ll at least have some purchase history after the DJ. The Daytona, especially the brand new references, will likely be difficult to impossible without building a great relationship first. So, if that’s the piece you want the most I would just pay the premium and buy from a trusted seller here in the classifieds section.

Best of luck! Keep us posted on what you decide.

You should spend a little more and go after a white gold Pepsi from the AD at MSRP.

Agreed with both of these. You can get the DJ from an AD. You don’t sound like someone who wants to wait, but if you give it a few months I’m sure you can get that or a WG (white gold) watch. You’re spending $30k, and white gold looks just like stainless. Pretty much no one will know you’re wearing a WG watch unless they’re really into watches.

Spend my money

I’d choose the Batman and DJ41 over a Daytona, and then add a Speedmaster.

A Daytona or Pepsi would be perfect.

Assuming you go grey, maybe a meaningful vintage, such as one from the year you started your business.

Welcome to the forum.

I’d want my first Rolex to come from an AD, YMMV. I think you could land a DJ or BLNR in due time. The Daytona will be more difficult unless you go gray.

Good luck

Buy the Daytona and be done with it. Anyone who wants a Daytona and buys something else never losses the desire for it. That will gives you a great collection to enjoy paired with the others.

All mentioned watches are great watches. I found that when I first got into Rolex I was drawn to the watches I felt I should want. It took me a while to decide what I really liked as opposed to what I should like. My tastes are quite different now and I certainly didn't get hurt going through the process. If those are the watches you are drawn to, regardless of the reason, then those are the ones you should go after. Someone mentioned a Starbuck which is a green bezeled Sub Date. That's a good choice as is the TT Blue bezel sub (Bluesy). Also as an alternative to the SS black Daytona, consider looking at the TT Daytonas as they might come in quite a bit cheaper and offer more watch for the money. Other watches to consider might be the TT or SS Sea Dwellers. I'm personally after the Ti YM42. YMs are also pretty good deals adding a dressiness to the Subs. It's your money; have fun.

Thank you all, great advice! I just bought my Tudor from the AD so I'm a fresh face. I'll stop in and see what I can possibly make happen. I'll also look at trusted sellers here. Cheers!

Your likes: New style black bezel Daytona, Pepsi or Batman, DJ blue dial

You can probably get the DJ blue dial without much wait, at retail. I would visit a local AD and get to know them. Start with that one since you actually like it.

From there your chances of getting a daytona are zero... but a pepsi or a batman you have a much better chance. Once you have the DJ41 you should pick a gmt (pepsi or batman) and which bracelet you prefer (jubilee or oyster) and put yourself on the list.

Being on the list is not terrible. Gives you a chance to enjoy your DJ41 while you wait. And you should visit the AD regularly (like every month if you can), to make sure they think of you in case someone "ahead" of you on the imaginary list doesnt want something you want.

You own a business and it didnt start making the money it is making today since day 1. Some things take a little bit of patience. I would highly recommend going with an AD and you'll be out the door under $25k with 2 watches.

When I just got into Rolex I bought the watch posted above. Because I thought it looked different, it had a very interesting dial and some colour. I find steel watches with black dials very safe bets and that’s not me.

I sat with them all and that’s the one I loved the most.

Just get what you love the most regardless of what the majority think

Get the new style black bezel Daytona from a trusted seller. Simply put, you won't get one from your AD at this stage. Same goes with the Pepsi and Batman. I find the Daytona more versatile than the GMTs. It looks really sharp.

The SS DJ is feasible but they'll make you wait. Could be a year, so not an option.

Honestly not sure what to make of the reference of an X5Mc owner (that's coming from a M8 owner). I want to say Daytona because if you feel the need for speed then nothing more appropriate. But if performance driving isn't really your thing then the other 2 maybe more appropriate. Strictly as a Rolex decision I would actually start with the quintessential rolex submariner. If you feel the regular one isn't special enough you can get the green bezel one. Or get the white gold blue bezel. You can find a new one from grey dealer as low as $34k.

Oh don't go Chrono24. You are automatically paying 6% more. Plus some out of state grey may not charge you tax. So you potentially save 15% or more right off the bat
