Biking with your Rolex

I’ve been wearing my watch on daily commute to work. I know there are opinions on whether it’s ok to ride your watch on bicycle. My question is though, other than after taking a spill, has anyone had to service their watch due to simply wearing their watch while biking? In other words, have any of you actually dealt with internal watch damage from bike riding?

The vibration of the steering wheel worked a screw out. Caught it in time. Fell with a bark finish DateJust, super cool watch. I was okay but the watch was pretty messed up. RSC was able to fix it to almost new.

Wrecked my Harley wearing my TT Sub I spent 3 months in the hospital and chipped the crystal on my watch.

I ride my mountainbike almost daily wearing any of my three Rolex. They can certainly take the jostling around, etc. The possibility of severely damaging one in a crash is pretty small but not impossible, I’m not worried.
I bought my watches to use not to preserve for the next owner. I don’t wear the Daytona as often on the bike as I like its shiny parts. The OP and BLRO don’t show much wear at all.

I wear my 116600 or 214470 pretty often on my road bike.

Did some bike riding with my TOG on a tour in one of the islands visited with a cruise, not something would probably do on a regular basis (would rather use my Apple Watch for that) but don’t think would harm the watch.

I have other watches I wear when biking, I don’t wear my Rolex watches when it comes to biking.

I avoid it. Even without falling I’d think the vibration and bumps couldn’t be good for it.

Seriously? If you don't want to wear it while riding put it in that cute little bag you have on the front of your bike. If you can take it the Rolex can take it.

You can but I would not. So many other watch options that fit the sport/beater option that I would wear a Seiko/G-Shock, etc. Just because you can does not mean that you should.

My wife and i bicycle a lot, and we've never had any problem with Rolex, the Bvlgari Octo, OMEGA Speedy, etc bicycling. Only problem was with a PP Aqua as the lume fell out of the '1' marker of the '10'.

C'mon people, I've worn a watch since I was a kid and I don't ever think "should I take it off for an activity?" I've shoveled a TL of dirt, played lots of golf, chopped wood with an ax, I bike almost every day, lift weights 3X/week, shoot Skeet, etc., in the past few months with a Rolex or Panerai or Breitling or Tag or Tudor, whatever I'm wearing without a second thought. The only time I would take a watch off for an activity is water. I wouldn't swim with a Navitimer, or a Moonwatch. That's part of the reason I don't own those watches. Otherwise wear your watch(es). That's what they're for. They can take it. In the past 10 years I've sent two watches back for service. A Breitling Superocean had condensation under the crystal shortly after I bought it, and a DJ 41 for the low amplitude problem. Neither problem had anything to do with user error or activity. Both got fixed under warranty. Enjoy your watches!

I ride a couple miles a day. Not a lot but more than most people. My Apple Watch provides speed, heart rate, and distance traveled at a glance. It’s a better tool for the job.

I suspect an Apple watch is the superior tool for most jobs. except for water emersion, over any mechanical watch. It may be the reason I see so many of them on wrists everywhere.

I would carry it in my jersey pocket, but I wouldn't wear it on my wrist. Too much vibration and jarring coming up through the fork and stem. Why take the risk?

To be fair, I’m not sure some of these guys are serious bike riders. If I ride my bike a couple times a year, I probably would wear a Rolex and wouldn’t think much of it.

If I’m riding on a daily basis, then I want the right tool for the job. An Apple Watch displays speed, heart rate, distance travelled, elevation, etc., and that’s all data a serious bike rider wants to see.

Need to see the rest of the bike.

I never wore mechanical watches while riding, but also had Wahoo prominently positioned on our kits, so that resolved any sort of watch-wearing concern.
