I am traveling to Europe - Is it safe to…

leave my Rolex at home???

Kinda serious though. And I mean safe from feelings of longing and generally feeling partially undressed without my Sub.

We are doing the Tour du Mont Blanc next month. We will start in Chamonix and hike to Courmayer, on to Trient and back to Chamonix over 8 days. Our luggage is being transferred from town to town while we hike with only a small daypack.

We then go to Annecy and Geneva for a few more days of leisure and luxury.

I have an Apple Watch Ultra that I love for such activities as I can track everything I need and follow a .gpx route on each days hike. If I bring my Sub, it will reside in my pack all day every day and may only come out at night. Seems a little silly. No?

Plus, maybe I can go back to Geneva and beg some AD to sell me a Tudor to spare me from the indignity of walking around Geneva with an Apple Watch.

You’ll have the regrets of leaving it at home when you see someone else with it at dinner or out on the town, but you’ll have more piece of mind otherwise. Do what you like but I typically leave them at home because you will be in sketchy places every once in a while and being that it’s summer, long sleeves are probably not realistic this time of year.

Safest place for your watch is on you wrist. Going to have your bag with the sub in it on you all day every day while out see the sites, or will it stay in your hotel room?

I’m always an advocate of traveling light. If you aren’t going to wear the sub hardly at all, why bring it?

Personally, I’d take the Sub and use my phone to track routes, maps, mileage etc. My Exp II has barely left my wrist since I got it and Mont Blanc and Geneva is the sort of trip I wouldn’t do without it.

If you feel you need the Apple Watch, then Sub on the left wrist, Apple Watch on the right wrist. Charge the Apple Watch in the evenings while out to dinner. Sorted.

Bring the Ultra and leave the sub at home in the safe. It’ll be a lot less stressful.

Just take it. You'll be fine in the Alps. Wear it or carry it in a zippered or velcro coat pocket when not wearing.

Hmmm. That’s a real first-world problem you have. The watch isn’t safe on your trip and will get very little wrist time. But it may not be safe at home, either, as you’ll be on an extended leave and so far away. You’ll probably spend way too much time and energy thinking about it, regardless of what decision you make. I think I have a solution for you: Send it to me and I’ll proudly (and carefully) wear it while you’re gone. I’ll take it places and send you daily updates with photos. I’ll talk to it kindly and handle it with the utmost respect. Look at it this way, while you’re backpacking through Europe, your watch will be having the time of its life at Camp Flintstone. Let me know.

Hope you have an amazing trip Jason, sound like a lot of fun

I’ve travelled all over Western Europe and usually wear a Submariner or a blro. Personally I’d take your Sub, but if you don’t feel comfortable wearing it, I’d just leave it a home

Knowing the region well, you can take your Sub! You will have to pay attention to Annecy only.
For the rest you are in peace. Enjoy !!!!

If it’s going to be dead weight in your pack, might as well leave it at home.

I’d wear one or the other. Placing myself in that scenario, I’ve looped my wearables on a pack strap, as I generally only care about the weather and where I am.

I just went Italy. I only brought my Apple Watch and I regretted not bringing my Submariner.

If it’s a big hiking trip like that - I’d probably bring my Garmin/Apple Watch.

If you're bringing a smart phone, no need for an Apple watch.
So there's that.

If you take your Sub, wear it.

I vividly remember sitting atop Hale Akala at Sunrise and thinking "I wish I were sharing this moment with my Daytona, Exp-II or GMT".

If you will only be in the mainstream popular areas and you will really miss the watch, I would wear it. You will see others wearing Rolex and will miss it even more. I know it is not Europe, but I was in midtown NYC recently and saw a lot of Subs on people's wrists.

We travel and I always wear one of my watches. If we are traveling to somewhere that could possibly be a little sketchy like cities in the US, I have some less expensive alternatives.
