Any hardcore car folks transition to a SUV?
I have always had a daily driver and some sort of sports car for the weekend or something. This past January, I got a good offer for my 2021 C63s AMG coupe. Sold it and I ordered a E63S sedan.
At this point my daily was my trusty Volvo XC90 and my wife too liked this car we traded in that Volvo for a 2023 XC90 T8 the plug in hybrid. My wife loves it and its her car now. When this happened I took her 2000 BMW X5. This really was my first experience with a BMW and I was impressed at the dynamics of the SUV. In early March of this year I got word that Mercedes stopped production of the E63s Sedan (RIP V8). Since I was impressed with the X5, I thought I would order a BMW M5. I got an allocation and ordered it. While waiting for it, I was visiting the dealership in April to get oil change on our X5, and they just unloaded a new X5M. Drove it and loved it! The spec was the exact color I would order. Talked to the spouse and since we are expecting our 2nd child it would be nice for me to go down to just one car and SUV. I talked to the dealer and cancelled my M5, and got a nice little discount on the X5M as well. It's has been great having the extra space and sitting up high. Fast foward to yesterday....My Mercedes guy calls me and said there is a e63 allocation they got than can be fully customized to my liking. Do I go back to a Car? Thoughts? Yes I know its first world problems. I do feel tech and build quality of BMW is much better than modern day Mercedes. |

I’d rather have the x5M but I’m 6’3” and lazy. YMMV!
My wife has an X5 and I’ve had several in the past and they make a superb daily in the northeast.

I have not transitioned and still identify as my biological car guy self. Specifically large German sedans.
I’ve flogged a few Macans and it is tempting. I totally understand the crossover/SUV appeal, especially with what the Germans can do with them. But I’m holding strong for now. Congrats on the X5M. *If there’s at least one SUV in the family, I would drive what you like. No telling what they do with the E63s next (like the C class hybrid). |

I think I'm being seduced by our new Subaru Outback Touring.
My wife has been looking further afield than the Mercedes that the girls in our family love so much. 8 or 9 years ago we looked into it but around then Subaru were having problems with excessive oil consumption and head gaskets. In recent times they seem to have worked through it and come out the other side. Anyway, just for giggles we called into the local Subaru dealer a few months ago and were kicking tyres, the next thing we knew we were test driving a fully optioned car that had some small amount of ks on it which was an ex-Subaru corporate car. We were so impressed by the ride quality and how light it was on its feet we bought it as soon as we got back to the dealer. Every time we drive it we are falling in love with it's inherent qualities. I know it's not necessarily an SUV per se and more of an SUV sized wagon with respectable AWD capabity, but I think it blurs the line sufficiently to recieve a very honourable mention given it's size and capacity. |

Everyone I know that buys a Subaru ends up buying them for life. My uncle went through a few (yes, just a few) over 35 yrs. If I liked the styling we’d have at least one to beat around in. Sent from my Apple privacy invasion product |

Can you keep the SUV and add a fun weekend sports car?

This
I found it too hard to compromise with a do-it-all one car. I went from M5 (and similar) to SUV/pickup truck and sports car/exotic. Granted, the 63 or M5 are superb at this, but it’s still nothing like having an SUV and a true sports car. If budget is the biggest concern, I’d still rather have the 2 vehicle combo within that E63 budget. |

Yes, I have been toying with this idea again. I use to have a weekend car but just became a headache with 3 cars and garage space. We are few years away from building our next home and 4 car garage is going to be a must.

SUV all the way for me. We usually get a car when on vacation and I don't like sitting low. Can't wait to get out of them.
I've basically had a SUV of one type or another since 1987.

If you can, get a nice pick up truck for a daily, they make some real nice luxury ones, then get a sports car for the thrills

I use to do this, my 2021 C63s was my weekend car. But it wasn't the best handling weekend car... Pretty positive my X5m takes corners faster in and out. Might look for something like a go cart on crack like an older Cayman GTS.

Personally…I love an SUV for daily driving, and I don’t expect that will ever change, but a “fun” weekend/short trips, etc…sports car, has also been a staple for me for many years.

I went from a 335i M-Sport to an X3 M40i.
The 335i begged to be driven hard into the corners. The X3 tolerated it. Sedan/coupe for me! |

I had that for five years and sold it with 25k miles, I drove it a tonne on weekends and evenings. I entered the world of Ferrari since then. But thank you, I do miss it at times and have thought of re-acquiring one in the future.

I've become an SUV guy. My Toyota Highlander has been a solid daily driver for the last 8 years. I like having the extra hatch space for Costco runs and golfing on the weekend.

Nope. Rarely do I say “never” but I will never have an SUV. Wifey loves her Lexus SUV and it’s comfy as well as practical. That leaves me free to drive whatever I want.
I seriously don’t care for SUVs and crossovers. |

E63 wagon or RS6 wagon.
Everything lifted is an SUV now for poors to look like they have a country estate or a Doberman to sit in the back. Take a few ibuprofen if getting out of a car hurts!! |

I've had SUV's, Jeeps and Toyotas, and now drive a Honda Accord 2.0T. Great little car, quick enough for where I live and very low cost to own. But I miss sitting up high, and where I live a high performance car (not claiming that's what my Accord is, but it does pretty well) is wasted with way too much traffic and in many places miserable roads full of potholes.
So I think I'm going to go back to an SUV or buy my first ever pickup, simply because I've never had one. My list is X7, new GX, GLS, Ram 1500 or 2500 (not sure a 2500 will fit in my garage) or a GMC AT4... I want max luxury inside and tough as hell on the outside with the ability to drive almost anywhere I want. Any options I'm not thinking of? I like Range Rovers but don't trust the long term quality. Also like the new Sequoia and Tundra, but hear questionable things about the new engine quality. Looking to buy in a year or two, my Accord will likely go to my son when he gets his license. |

New to the board but huge car guy so figured a natural first post. I was not (and am not) an SUV guy but do enjoy splitting my preference into specialized vehicles. Xc90 and xc60 are our current family runabouts and then the rest are pure sports cars.
I prefer this over a powerful sedan, which I still feel is a compromise. Have driven Porsche SUVs as loaners and, while nicely executed, are still compromises. |

My opinion is that it's hard to make a 5,000 pound SUV handle like a sports car. I don't think it's worth the increment to try to accomplish that. But I also know the issue with having (n) vehicles and (n-1) garage spots. That gets old. If you live in a northern climate, maybe get a fun weekend car and store it elsewhere in the winter? I'm not big on compromising, especially with vehicles.
