Hello,

with five previous Rolexes (among them 2 subs, gmt, explorer 2, milgauss) I have now my eyes on the SD, the old version.

The bottom line is that I have a buy limit in about 5K - which version of the SD do you recommend?

I guess that the triple6 is pricier than my limit..

Any suggestion is appriciated! Thanks, and thanks for a great forum.

Well there has been very very very very little change to the SD since 1988/9. Now non lug hole case, different case date stamps, and some very minor font diffences, and thats it.So if you want something different then its the vintage route as from 1989/9 the SD are all mostly the same.

SDs are amazing watches from what I've read....built like tanks. It appears to me that you own all sport watches. May I recommend a DateJust. It changes it up a bit. Best of luck on your decision.

I would go for the regular 16600, with or without lug holes, depending on your preference. I personally would like lug holes, but I have a winner of a SD and I am not changing. You don't have to worry about oddball features like CRB or maxi-dial. Any 16600 is virtually the same watch. 5K should get you a complete late model LNIB.

I would go for the SD in the best condition with boxes and papers and not care about the year.

I actually think the lug holes make the watch look tough. Like a true tool watch.

Here's an "M" Serial SD given to me by my wife.
I absolutely love this watch (my favorite of the 5 models I have), it's the one that gets the most wrist time. Trust me - no matter the year, you will love the SD.
I'm sure you can find one for around 5K+ on the For Sale section of this forum.

Thanks for your replies, I just want to clarify that the SD is planned do be my sixth Rolex, although not at the same time - I have sold the previous ones.

Just now I have a Omega PO, and its feels a little bit odd when Im used to Rolex. PO is a nice watch, but something is wrong. I think you know what Im talking about

Anyway. The hunt continues. The dream SD would be a triple6, but they are far more expensive than 5k, right?...
