if you were offered, at retail, a daytona 126519LN or royal oak chrono 26240ST.OO.1320ST.06 which would you choose and why?

daytona $32,100:
pros:
- daytona history
- white gold case + clasp
- ceramic bezel

cons:
- no date
- no fly back
- solid case back

royal oak chrono $37,400:
pros:
- ap horology
- date
- fly back
- open case back
- 22k rotor

cons:
- stainless steel

Between these two, I would go AP ROC all day every day and twice on Sunday

I consider pretty much all of your Daytona cons pros, and that would be my pick, but seems like you would much prefer the ROC.

Two big things not mentioned: Rolex reliability is a huge pro and it’s built like a tank. AP reliability is horrible (and frankly embarrassing at this price point).

Daytona. Iconic and its PM.

I love the RO, although I only have a ROO, I am in the forever waiting list for a RO (not C), but I would not consider a RO if I don't have a Daytona. I have 2 Daytonas.

What reliability issues are you referencing?

Agree re Rolex and it’s a feature I’ve learned to deeply appreciate. But I guess I hadn’t heard this about AP. Is this literally true and not hyperbolic? Is a basic RO not reliable for daily reasonably careful wear?

The ROC bracelet has to be another pro.

Man, if both available, I would try to find a way to get both (even I find the Daytona a bit small). Maybe unload some others you have that you don’t wear.

No idea where this is coming from? AP has no issues I am aware of.

Count me in with Andrew on this one. Royal Oak is a bit larger, and I love me a good open caseback. Plus I like bracelets better than straps at present time.

I'd keep the money if offered those two at retail. Not much into PM Daytona and will never do a 4:30 date, sorry.

Personally, I find the dial of the RO Chrono too busy and prefer the cleaner look of the Daytona

Two friends had APs and both had a lot of issues. Also from when I asked around on the AP forum when I was considering one (my friend told me not to get one) it wasn’t positive.

My personal opinion too - the fact the date window isn’t centered between the 4 and 5 hour markers on the 38mm ROC, it’s just not acceptable. How is AP going to cut corners on a $35k watch; it’s an off centered date window because they’re using a purchased movement. That tells me a lot about AP horology.

You didn't tell us the most important thing - will this be your daily and only watch?

You can't wear the rubber strap each day with every outfit. So the AP wins this.

However, if you already have more watches in your collection, for example a Sub, I would go with Daytona.

If this will be your one and only quality watch for every occasion, than the AP.

Both are winners but it really depends on if it’s going to be a daily and how it will fit into an existing collection or will it be your only watch.

Out of these 2, the ROC. But vs the Daytona on bracelet, the Daytona.

Hard for me to imagine paying $37k on a watch from a brand with Black Panther and Spider-Man watches. Daytona for me.

Battle: Daytona | ROC

There’s only one right answer: both!

However, Daytona can be a low-key daily, while ROC on bracelet wears a lot like jewelry—very distinctive.

ROC looks like a $40k watch, while Daytona is much tamer…

They are very different animals, hence my vote is both. ROC now, because of its limited production. PM Daytona later.

I know these are different models but it’s a real side by side picture of the two. I love the Daytona but next to a ROC it just looks ordinary. The Daytona is a S class Mercedes and the ROC is a Bentley. But with that being said I wouldn’t want to drive the Bentley as a daily, so it depends on how you will use them.

Exactly
This isn’t a battle in any way
Rolex is a king of marketing but makes mass produced high street watches to the same level as Omega
AP is a true high horology hand finished maker in the holy trinity, it’s not comparable, different level of watch

Daytona! The AP is very nice but imho Royal Oaks look best without any complication to admire the tapisserie dial
