Just joined, looking for info on Dad's watch

Greetings to all. I've been told that this forum is the best place for me to try to identify and learn about my father's Rolex, which he bought new in 1972. Please tell me where I should start a thread on this to get the forum's opinion - just a new thread in the Vintage section? Or is there a better place?

Thanks in advance for assistance.

First you should look on the sides of the case under the bracelet and have the pertinent numbers to put into your query.

Nice looking heirloom with many, many years of service left.

I must not have hit enter on my post last night.
Looks like a ref 6424 (36mm) or possibly a 6427 (34mm).
Reference number should be between the lugs at 12.
I am guessing the latter.
