Offered black dial 26420SO
My local AD offered me a black dial 26420SO today. Of the ROO’s this is my least favorite iteration so I declined and said I’d like to hold out for a green or black dial 15510.
AD was honest and said it could be difficult and would have to wait a while (which I understand), however, he said he understood and wanted to sell me something I’d enjoy which I do appreciate. As my first AP, I want something that blows me out of the water when I wear it, not something I feel “eh” about. Don’t know how this will shake out but we shall see! That said, no use in spending that kind of cash if the watch doesnt speak to you... good luck |

Obtaining black (higher chance)vs. Green (more like black) 15510 as the first RO is going to be difficult. Who knows, you may have better luck.

Black is possible but green is very unlikely especially after declining a piece.

If a watch doesn't sing to you don't buy it, especially at that price. I did buy that same watch in April after a few years of waiting and then in June I bought a 38mm gray ROC. So it probably opened a door for me, but the watch was on my list (including other colors). The biggest problem is that you never know what they are thinking. Will you go to the back of the line for what you really want? Or will they appreciate your honesty? I'm guessing it is variable depending on SA and boutique.

I was offered and bought (/love) that piece. The ROO is highly underrated, I’m a huge Offshore fan after owning the 43. Such a great watch, currently awaiting my red strap to arrive.

Don't worry about it, especially if you don't like it. I actually love it, have it on my list, and turned it down recently. I just wasn't ready for that particular model. I've since been offered something more desirable. Communication is the key. I'll probably circle back to the 43 black dial.

When you first met the team/SA at the boutique, did you set up an account and a wish list? Because they don’t want you getting a piece you don’t love, they won’t hold your honesty against you. Moreover, you wouldn’t be the first to get a RO as their first piece…it just may take a bit longer.
Still, you should consider the other ROO options, and if you like any of those then put on your list. This would help you to also get the RO you want. Good luck. |

It doesn’t make sense. AP wants to prevent flipping.
Forcing people to buy watches they don’t like, only for them to be bought because « if I refuse the offer I won’t get what I want » is a lose lose. |

I met with my SA in late May and have been back one other time since. Always a great experience going there and trying on different models. I originally tried a diver and the taupe ROO. The dial on the diver left me underwhelmed but I did like the taupe. After going back a second time and trying on a green ROC in the flesh I was sold. I expressed this my SA who said it would be noted in my profile. It seems like we hit it off, but when I declined the black ROO he tried to sell it saying “he wanted to get me a piece like this to get into the brand”. I understand the RO may be more difficult to get but I’m not going to spend $40k + on a watch I’m not crazy about. Just hope he understands and it works out in the end. If not I guess I always have my Rolex’s lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Green dial RO/ROC as first AP would be quite unusual, like getting a Pepsi or Daytona as first Rolex. Black dial seems much more likely, but I don't know how the Boston boutique deals with rejection. Always a pleasure to chat with them, though.

No offense and it’s not singling you out, but this is my opinion. A lot of guys are used to Patek and Rolex dealers who will legitimately scoff and be rude when you ask about stuff that you’re flat out not going to get. AP associates are ten times more professional and respectful in my experience, but with this comes a lot of guys holding onto false hope that you’re going to get something you’re honestly not. Just because they’re not flat out telling you no, the subtle hints they’re dropping are for a purpose. I can almost guarantee you that there are *dozens* of clients *with* purchase history who want a green/blue RO at each and every boutique. To give this to a new client would be a bad look not to mention aren’t the colored dials still needing approval? It’s just non-sensical from the boutique’s perspective. Sure there’s going to be 1 or 2 exceptions on the ENTIRETY of the internet, but it’s highly (as in less than 1% I’d guess) probable it’s not happening. Personally, life is too short and I’d move to another color/model then endlessly wait for something I’m most likely not getting allocated. ESPECIALLY when we’re discussing the very first piece with the brand. Just my 2c here |

I actually agree totally with your point. It's bad sales business to turn customers off the brand. SAs at AP are very good at what they do, which tbh is what you'd expect for a luxury brand (and unlike Rolex which for all intents and purposes is still mass market). Therefore you'll never hear a "that is probably not gonna happen" but rather a "I'll definitely see what I can do for you". The end result will be the same but you feel hopeful with the latter... |
