Avoid AD games by not playing them in the first place

Every day on this site I come across one or more posts explaining the frustrations a forum member faces at their AD, or with trying to forge a relationship with a particular SA. It is hard to read that these encounters routinely occur when we all know that ADs have walk in vaults full of new rolexes that are waiting for a new revision to come out, so they can mark them up, and sell them as certified pre owned watches.

It's obvious that ADs have forgotten their place in the hierarchy of society, but more importantly the golden rules of sales: The customer is always right. I implore all of you to reverse the situation, and remind the SA that you don't speak with them, only the owner. Remind the ADs that you are the one calling the shots, not them. When they try to sell you that Tudor, Breitling, Air King, or Omega that you don't want, reaffirm why you are there, and point to the exhibition watch you want.

Unfortunately, this is not unique to watches, but also spills over to the automotive industry. However, there you can beat these men by exerting dominance. Recently my new luxury car search took me to a dealer whereby I put the above into action and a friend recorded it so that others may benefit (link below). Learn from me, and get that grail watch!

You lost me at the customer is always right. They’re not.

But kudos for the passion. Most people in DC wearing Olive Drab are still in the Watergate awaiting instructions.

No, they really are, even when they're not. Good salespeople don't let it get in their way!

If they ask you to buy something you don't want, just say No. Otherwise, showing up regularly and getting to know the AD has worked for people I know.

And the best salespeople at Rolex AD will recognize that "times have changed" but will not cop an attitude. There was a time when pretty much any Rolex models other than stainless sport ones were available for purchase on the spot, and maybe those days will return.

Ah, you see the problem is that the average Rolex/luxury car buyer isn't being ALPHA enough. This guy is here to save us with his superlative ALPHAness.

I’m a billionaire and this is a fools mindset. You don’t tell them ‘you’re wrong!’ You take what they say and adjust. If customers were always ‘right’ , they’d want a faster horse, not a car. You know where I’m going with this. I won’t debate it further.

And everyone’s in sales. They just don’t know it.

A potential customer tried to 'exert his dominance' on my wife, who worked in the family motorcycle shop. Well, he tried the wrong person, she just told him to get lost (in firmer language). In the end he was begging to buy his motorcycle from her.

Actually OP is very smart. By convincing the more modest minds around him, to act like alpha males, he makes sure to kill the competition. The more alpha males ruin their chances of obtaining a watch, the sooner OP will get his grail TT Datejust.

I guess you don't know much about retail.

Who do you think tells the SAs to behave that way? Why would the owner waste their time on you if you're only buying one watch? Why would they sell you a Rolex when someone else will buy that Rolex and buy $10,000 - $100,000 worth of other merchandise?

I don’t follow links, because someone told me I should. Checking in with a SA once in awhile, letting him know you are still interested, making the occasional visit to the store, isn’t playing games. It’s smart. Also, it didn’t put me out. I love talking watches. Oh, and it worked. I got my watch.

Read this and was thinking Henry VIII must have wrote it and then Tudor got slated so guessed it’s not him after all.

For your info OP, 3 of the 4 people I buy watches from are women. Very good at their jobs too would you believe!
