116034/Milgauss GV or something with the date?

I am a first timer and am looking to buy a Rolex for my oldman for his 60th bday....

I thought 116034 with the small diamonds..was classy and a beauty (and kindda within the budget)...then after reading several of the posts in the forum i realized it didnt have the date feature..(oddly i didnt notice it at first, prolly rookie mistake) Now I have the feeling that the date feature, esp with the small magnifying piece, is kindda cool and is a must have on a rolex...

Milgauss GV is the other model which really caught my attention...again no date...but i am leaning more towards 116034 to the more sporty Milgauss, since its for my dad...

I would really appreciate if you guys could make some recommendations... for a watch similar to 116034, which comes with the date feature... not to mention in the same price range....

I could use all the help in the world...

Datejust 116234 with a diamond dial would be spot on, although it would be considerably more expensive than a Milgauss. You might want to just go for a non-diamond dial, there are plenty to choose from. Besides, the white gold fluted bezel will give you all the sparkle you need

I'm not the biggest fan of the milgauss, especially the GV. IMHO, it would look out of place for someone in their 60's. I would pick some kind of datejust, and stay away from diamonds. I think that the one to the left is a good choice. I have always been a fan of the datejust below (I almost bought it). Good luck!

Thanks a heap for the suggestion guys....both those watches are pretty spot on...Yeah like Brad mentioned the GV might be a little too sporty for him..

What is the word on buying it online ? I guess I wont get the Rolex warranty? But is that something worth giving up if its a 1000 or 1500 cheaper than an AD? Can you tell me the cons of buying online compared to buying it from an AD?

Apart from Swissluxury any other website that you guys would suggest...where you guys have done business and can be trusted?

Usually I would say it does not matter but my recent experience with Rolex tells me differently... I have a GMT IIC that I bought new from AD 6/30/09 and it is in for its 2nd service already... Make sure you get the warranty!!! First time the date stuck and took 2 hours to flip and now there is a bubbly/chip on the inside of the crystal (I have never dropped the watch...) I certainly would not want to pay this out of pocket...

I personally would go for something easy to read. And at the age of 60 - who cares about the date?

In any case, i don't think you can go wrong giving a Rolex as a birthday gift - that's a good choice you already made. Go with what your gut tells you!
