Thoughts before purchasing 2023 TT Rootbeer

Hi all,

New here:)
After long waiting and without success buying from an official store, i am thinking
About buying a new 2023 Two Tone Rolex rootbeer. Wanted to ask you guys about past pricing and what do you expect going forward.
The quotes i get are between 20,500$ to 22,500$ for an unworn.
How is it compared to the hype it had in 2020?
And in general is it to be considered a watch with high demand that can hold its price? Aldo i am not buying for an investment but to understand the market on this watch.

Appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks

Everything was hyped in the 2020-22 bubble and the TT CHNR was no exception. It is a visually clever watch and I didn't give it a thought until I saw one for real. If you like the depth and lustre of its palette, it's a hard watch to ignore.

I can't see the future and can't predict prices. Generally speaking, price trends from 2018-19 can be extrapolated into 2023, if you ignore the spike between, although the trend is now somewhat declining - at the moment. It's a moot point, everyone sets their threshold, some people set it at MSRP or below. If it's the right time to jump for you, it's the right time. It's not like you're trading stocks.

It's not considered to be a particularly high demand watch

Welcome to the forum. Prices will ebb and flow on this one just like the rest. I personally buy watches without a thought about resale, but I view it to be similar to buying a new car…I might get my original purchase price back out of it depending on the model, but I realize I’ll probably lose X amount of $$$ if I sell or trade. Is this a high demand watch….not really. Nice watch..yes. Enjoy for that reason only

Watch prices are impossible to gauge, they correct then go up, it’s one of the most craziest things there is - as for the GMT Rootbeer although I love the watch I do think it looks good on certain skin tones, rose gold either TT or full is lovely but I do wonder if it’s a bit hip and happening right now, all the Trotters Gangsters wear them .. , but I do think it’s a great looking watch -

Just wanted to know if the current price is stable and had its correction or maybe compared to other rolex the price here hasnt drop the same or maybe higher.
Of course we cannot predict future prices but wanted to know the overall trend on this watch from you knowledge

How long have you been waiting? The Rootbeer seems to be a model that can be purchased at MSRP through AD’s currently

With all due respect, most on this forum buy watches for the love of watches, not the prices. They are not investments. We do not treat them as if they are a stock. I could care less if the prices of Rolex's bottomed out. In fact, I might actually prefer that as it might end the flipping and we could actually get a Rolex at an AD in a reasonable time frame.

I realize you stated that you are not buying it as an investment. But the fact that you are asking the question, state you don't want to buy a falling knife, makes one wonder if you are trying to decide to purchase it because you want it to hold it's value. If that's the case, you are buying it for the wrong reason. Buy it if you love it and nothing else.

Buying on the secondary, you are paying a small premium. So you will likely loose a couple of thousand if you tried to sell in the near future.

You won’t loose your shirt though and price rises will likely help over time.

I agree. Just buy one from an AD. You should get a firm allocation with delivery within 12 months or less.

Buy what you like because you love it not based off a value

You are 100% right. If I bought it at MSRP from an official AD my question was irrelevant and couldn’t care less about pricing.
Because i am considering on buying on the secondary market, i am trying to understand if i am paying a high premium or reasonable in compared to the demand / rare of the watch and where prices where in 2020-2022

Thanks

Well, if it helps I paid $16,500.00 in 2018 for a new with stickers CHNR through one of our trusted sellers. I lost $250.00 trading it on for another watch 10 months later.
That won’t happen now in this market. The value will be solid at this time but not crazy as TT watches do not get the attention SS models do. My gut feels $20k is top money for the CHNR. But because you love and are keeping this model at $20k. Worst case if you don’t like it you will likely lose about $5k in a catch and release trade. It’s a beautiful watch but too warm for me in hue.

Should not be too difficult to get one at retail with a bit of patience and politeness

I get that for some folks the above sentiment is the only criterion for buying a watch and that is fine. Others, like myself, do factor in the value proposition. I sold my Omega watches and a few limited edition Heuer watches that I owned over a span of 25 years and made money on them. While not enough to retire (that was never the intention), it did enable me to have some working capital to move into Rolex watches. I don't flip new watches, but I do buy and sell used Rolex watches, so my passion for watches necessitates a criteria that goes past what I love to include a value component. Having criteria versus a criterion doesn't make anyone more or less passionate about the hobby. It just means people are different. There's room for everyone.

Why do people think the rootbeer is all of a sudden an easy piece to get at an AD?

This is a model that has become fairly available lately. Go to several ADs, but don’t ask them the questions you are asking here. Get on their lists. If you are on a list, touch base monthly. Act like a watch lover, which I suspect you may not really be. They will peg you as a flipper, and will not call you, when they get one.

A lot of incomings, from AD’s, lately. Also, any TT references are easier to get, with shorter wait times.

It always has been comparatively easy. With the secondary market now past its spike and still easing for the TT CHNR, it's going to be back in the "comparatively easy at MSRP" zone sooner than many and may well be crossing that line already..

Nobody has a crystal ball that can predict the market.
The TT CHNR is one of the prettiest GMT’s ever made.

As for easily obtainable i doubt that.
You can always try but in my place you can forget about it from an AD and the only option will be grey. Guess depends on your history.
For some a Daytona is also easy.

I did buy it grey, zero regrets, beautiful piece of jewelry
