DD 40 below list from AD

Hi guys - I’ve been flirting with ADs recently (UK) for a YG DD40 and ADs have been very accommodating for me. I think there is a high chance I’ll get the call by year end.

One AD so much as said to me that they are seeing a real lack of demand for YG currently and Ofcourse in general demand has decreased across the board. Inwas offered multiple YG/RG models with the assurance I’d have the watch by year end. It was the first time in a long time where it felt like the AD was trying to sell me a watch rather than “I’ll put you on the list” convo.

It made me think if/when I do get the call, has anybody been able to secure a YG DD below list price? Is now the time to push for a discount or will I be laughed out the room?

It doesn't hurt to ask politely. I would say ask if they would like to offer a discount?

My guess is pricing is set by Rolex corporate and discounts are not able to be provided by a sales associate at an AD but I could be wrong!

Most likely, regarding this reference, you will see a sub MSRP at grey dealer first. AD will try their best not to give any discounts until cases are full. Grey dealers don't have that luxury.

The first part of your statement is correct but in the past, prior to the so called bubble, a 10% discount at minimum was common.

DD, DJs and Even Subs were almost always accompanied by a discount pre 2016.

When I got my WG sub earlier this year I told a shot and asked for a discount, they said NFW

Bundle a high demand steel piece is also worth an ask. More likely they’ll go for that as Rolex might discourage discounts (reflects badly on the image they’re heavily pushing these days).

You can ask but expect short shrift from your AD. But any discount should not be your motivation for a £35k new Rolex really.

+1. Asking for a sports piece to go with it is the way to go

I doubt any ADs will discount Rolex watches. Market is not that soft, there is no need to.

I would do exactly this. But it seems like the dds are not selling too much under retail at the current moment depending on the choice of dial.

Which dial are you going for?

Why would a AD discount below msrp in today’s market even for a pm model??

Always ask, maybe try to get them to cover the tax?

Gold was heavily discounted in the past, 18K/SS 10-15%, Datejust were always discounted.

I remember up to about 2018 the Gold & 18k/SS watches being heavily discounted in my area. I do remember the green sub being unobtainable around that same time.

I remember the discussion & regretting the heavy discount I was offered on a green sub in 2013 in 2018 when discussing the current market with my old AD (they shut down).

Wait until they start stacking up. They may not do it now.

I can only speak to my large U.S. based market and there is little to no chance of a discount here, even on a DD.

I think we’re a ways off from that too. We will see “bundling” return in greater numbers before we see discounts.

I got 17% off my YG DD40 in May 2020. Further in during the pandemic I don’t think you could, but not unthinkable you could get something off as these are not for everyone and the make significant margins on these:

I agree that you can ask for bundling, after I bought my YG DD40 in 2020 (with 17% off msrp) i received my Blue SkyD and BLRO in 2 months:

To be fair, i did buy 2 for our anniversary:

I got a discount in 2020 of about 15% on my DD40. I think until there are watches sitting in the case unsold, or the wait is just the next allocation, discount will be touch. A recession might change all that.

Thanks all - I think I’ll try my luck with a bundle. Daytona was the only model they said I had no chance of but everything else was on the table so to speak.

Good luck! I'd think it shouldn't be too long of a wait.
