Different kind of diamond settings

Hi all

I noticed two different kind of diamond settings on Rolex dials.

Can someone explain me the difference? Age, Model, original vs aftermarket setting, etc?

One seams where the gold seems kind of square, and one with a bit softer edges

Thanks

ps: I cant seem to attatch photos as examples, but I am sure you know what I mean

Square is older from 90s. Then the rounded ones came later
