Can this crystal be replaced with a Safire one

My buddy has just got his first Rolex. A bit older with the acrylic crystal. He got it scratched and asked
Me if it could be fixed.

From what I know is that they can be buffed out by a professional. And possibly he can get it replaced with a Safire crystal.

Does anyone know if this older DJ can get. A Safire crystal serviced.

I have always heard a sapphire crystal cannot be retrofitted on a watch designed for an acrylic crystal. Just doesn't fit. Part of the age-old Rolex strategy if you want an upgrade you have to buy a whole new watch.

Don’t believe it works to swap in a sapphire. However acrylic crystals are very cheap and can be easily replaced. I think they have their own kind of charm

I agree. I love the way the raise above the fluted bezel. When I was a kid that’s what always coughs my eye is that huge piece of plastic on the watch. It just shouted Rolex.

Would be awesome if they could make the same look with Safire.

Try some toothpaste on that scratch to see if that will fix the problem. I've remove plenty of scuffs and scratches that way.

If not, as mentioned before, acrylic crystals are cheap to replace.

I suggest that either way, you're friend should use a soft brush and some warm, soapy water to clean the bracelet at the very least.

Get some Polywatch off of Amazon for about $10. He can buff it himself…it is about the easiest thing you can do yourself on a watch. Hesalite/Acrylic (plastic) crystals still come on modern watches, (i.e. Omega Speedmaster Professional) and polywatch is the industry standard everyone sticks to. I think you’ll be pleasantly
surprised at how “new” it will look after you spend about 10
Minutes polishing it!

Sapphire conversion has been done by some but that shouldn’t be your buddy’s goal.

He just bought a Rolex for 1st time.

First step, get a pressure test.
If it fails, send to RSC since it could be gaskets, or bezel, or crystal. But it may need an overhaul.

If the watch passes a pressure test, he should try buffing out the scratch like others said.

If he doesn’t succeed then an AD could swap out the acrylic crystal.

Correct totally different fitting although it has been done but very doubtful would pass a wet pressure check after not recommended to do.Nothing wrong with acyclic crystals very easy to remove scratches if ever scratched, with sapphire almost impossible and yes they can get scratched. And when serviced by any RSC acrylic crystals are always replaced with acrylic as part of service.
