Sent rolex 14270 for service...should I be upset already?

Hi All, I want some honest opinions here. Here's a summary of what happened:

8/11/23: talked to watchmaker and that I needed a basic service on my 14270. Got a reasonable quote. I would be sending it in in the next couple weeks.
8/26/23: Visit post office. Sent package with watch to watchmaker's address using registered mail.
8/29/23: talked to watchmaker again and told him the package was on the way and it should be arriving during the week. We had a nice conversation.
9/1/23: package arrives per USPS tracking info. It says it was left with individual at the address.

The watchmaker's website says an email will be sent upon arrival to confirm receipt of a customer's watch. I never did get an email confirmation.

9/8/23: I call the watchmaker because I want to make sure he has the watch. He doesn't pick up.
9/12/23: I call again, no answer, so I leave a voicemail asking to please confirm receipt of the watch.
9/13/23: I call again, no answer, so I leave another voicemail.
9/14/23: I send an email to please confirm receipt of the watch.

So now, today it's been over two weeks since my watch was delivered and no email to confirm receipt of the watch and no correspondence since 8/29. When I originally talked to him, he said he was on about a two week turnaround time (which I took to mean the entire service). I haven't yet received a call about confirming the original estimate quoted before the work begins.

BTW, I'm not trying to rush the service. If he's busy, and it's going to take a while, not a big deal. I simply want confirmation my watch arrived safely.

Yes, I have USPS tracking, but there's a small chance it was delivered to the wrong address? Or something else.

Anyway, I don't know if I should just wait it out a few more days, or continue to call him and leave messages. I don't want to be overbearing and want to maintain a good relationship. I was hoping this would be my new watchmaker as I have a couple other watches I would like to have serviced. Should I be upset at this stage? I've had five watches serviced with various watchmakers and never been in this situation before.

Hoping to get some independent feedback. Thanks All.

If it was me I’d want to know my watch had arrived and was safe

Yes, I'd be upset. I think I read something similar here a few months ago where a guy complained about a reputable watchmaker that does a good job but does not communicate much with his customers. Maybe its the same one?

Hmmm, it better be an amazing watchmaker to have me send them my watch in the mail.
If they are indeed a reputable watchmaker I’d expect a lot more than the “crickets” treatment.
Two choices; try to find out what’s going on, or become a nervous wreck waiting.
If it was signature required you should be able to find out who signed for it.

Obviously it would be nice to have confirmation. Should you be upset? I might be a little worried, but probably not upset. Some people are not very responsive. In fact, one watchmaker that I use regularly seems to check his email only about once a month.

I wouldn't consider that the normal course of doing business.

Who’s the watchmaker?
Is he known on this forum, or at least by a few collectors here?
Yes, I would be very concerned.
And pissed off.

I'm hesitant to give the name of the watchmaker at this stage but yes, he is recommended from several posts I read which is why I decided to send it to him. I'll try to reach out again early this week and may let you know who it is depending on how things work out.

On the one hand, I don't want to create bad blood with someone this early on. But on the other hand, I agree this is not normal and not the way to treat a customer. And it's good to get both positive and negative reviews for a watchmaker.

I'm starting to wish I sent it to the last guy I used.

Completely unacceptable. I would demand that they send the watch back asap and I would use someone else.

You’re right to be measured and tells me you’re a good person. I think all will turn out well.

Alright gang...I got a call back today with confirmation of receipt of the watch and an estimate for the service. I got a break on the price of the service and I decided to move forward with the overhaul. It should be about two weeks and I'll have it back. I'll keep you posted on how things turn out.

I was considering if I should take the watch back and go someplace else due to the difficulty getting a confirmation of receipt. But heck, he already has the watch on site and does get good reviews on the forum, so I want to see how the service turns out. Then next time, I'll consider all the info and decide who to select next time.

Thanks again for your feedback.

They obviously read correspondence here/got tipped off by someone here - it's happened a few times before I've noted on various topics - a bit of a friendly rumpus usually garners action ....
