Explorer II - 3186 movement

Short of opening the case is there a way to tell if an M serial Explorer II has the 3186 movement vs the 3185?

I'm getting conflicting on whether all Ms have the new movement?

Does the watch adjust differently? Also heard of the "wiggle" test but not sure what that is.

Sure...

:Pull the crown out to the hour hand jump position. while slowly "jumping" the hour hand, the 24 hr hand will remain stable with the 3186, it will moove a few seconds back and forth with the 3185.

Also, the crown will rotate about 5 turns to jump the hand around the dial on the 3185.. it is closer to 8 complete turns for the 3186.

Follow larrys advice but the 3186 is hardly a new movement its just a slightly modded 3185.

Notice how the 24 hours hand does NOT move when they move the mercedes hand, that is the wiggle test. That result is to reflect a 3186. Keep in mind, best way to is break open the back.

I called the N.Y. RSC, gave them the model and serial number and asked what movement it had. They came back on the line shortly and said 3186.
