Icon8 SS Royal Oak - Smudges on midcase / lugs, help!

Hi, first time AP RO owner here.

I have mild OCD and stress over cleaning my watches every Sunday - a sort of meditative ritual if you will. However, cleaning my new RO is something else with its angles. There are some smudges that just won't come off and it's driving me nuts.

For longtime owners and experts, how the heck do you remove these stains on the midcase lugs??? Hope I haven't damaged the brushing rubbing it too much with a microfiber cloth. If there are any tips I would be grateful.

First make sure that isn't just a reflection from the high polish bezel edge.

Get a blush or foundation brush with 10s of thousands of soft bristles and use Dawn power wash. If it's related to water spots you could try compressed air. Don't scrub the watch with a towel though.

I swear by this one. Seems silly I know.

I've also used it on gold PCLs over and over with no scratches.

It's the reflection off the bezel, isn't it?

Problem solved.

So they really were smudges and not the reflection off the bezel.
Used my wife's unused makeup brush with soap and worked like a charm haha!

The good folk at this forum really seem to know a LOT more about watch maintenance than the AD's and SA's...

A follow up question for those reading this post: why is it not recommended to clean the watch with microfiber cloth / towel?

Thanks for the tip!

Clean the watch with water and soft brush. Make sure the crown is properly screwed.
It's not a reflection of the bezel.

See cleaning your watch part.

Glad it worked.

They can polish a shine on the brushed surfaces if you get too spirited

Can't be avoided. On my steel RO and my gold ROO they can't be cleaned off. On my ceramic diver I found that a qtip with some acetone cleans it off.

Here is a 5402, so it's not a new problem

I just use dawn soap, some water and rub it with my hands.

To dry them, I just hold it in between a soft towel and give a light shake.

That said, I don't let them get too dirty to begin with.
