I was interested because of the new release status with better looking IMO, dial. Also I have owned the 39mm for years now and was curious about how the new slightly larger 40 would wear. Both wear great. I guess it is the collector in me. Sorry to be so vague.

The wider bracelet is also nice to have. And as I stated the dial is better looking and will now add more symmetrical to me.

The bracelet and clasp are the biggest visual difference, with the narrowed bracelet making the watch appear much bigger. It looks like the bracelet/clasp are much more comfortable as well.

What are your thoughts on the difference? Is the new 40mm an improvement over the older 39?

I believe it is better than the 39 in the sense of new improvements with a new caliber with extended power reserve. But not much. That being said, I will not sell the watch. It is a keeper.
The second hand has not be changed. Nothing has.

The minute hand seems longer than the original hand that came on the mark I 214270. If Rolex serviced it they may have switched it out on their own.

I do not recall servicing that watch and I purchased it new. Thanks for the observation. I will definitely research this.

That’s factory. I remember seeing a video about Explorer evolution and that’s one of the minute detail differences. 39mm comes with a longer minute hand that goes into the indices.
