Rolex wearing - Senegal
Hello all. I'm working in Dakar Senegal for the next few years. Want to take my 126613LN to wear daily.
I know it's west Africa and ask that but would anyone chance it.!! Been there s few months now and it seems OK so far. |

The value of your watch is about 10x the Senegalese per-capita GDP. The average monthly wage is $570. I’d think twice.

Just get watch watch insurance for the watch and health insurance to cover the treatment and prosthetic when your arm gets chopped off. This way, you can wear it without a worry.

Find out about the context of the general elections scheduled for February 2024, and what happened in terms of clashes and climate during the previous ones. Also on the average salary, the unemployment rate, the crime rate, home burglaries and armed robberies frequency...
You will answer your question for yourself.

I’m absolutely positive most responses will be from folks that have never lived in Africa, nor visited even.
Most of Africa is actually surprisingly safe. I’ve lived and traveled within the continent and never felt unsafe. People know the name Rolex, but don’t know how to identify one nor would expect one to wear a real one. It isn’t even a thought. Your iPhone is at more risk. |

Wow that is a two tone submariner ! That is some serious bling. I’d hesitate to wear it around NYC unless I have a jacket covering it up (and I live in NY). I used to wear my Rolex into the city… maybe in the winter but now don’t do so in the summer when I’m wearing short sleeves.
It just attracts unwanted attention and no need to even question safety. Dude, get a Seiko 5 and call it a day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

100% definitely take it for safety reasons.
If you're in a precarious situation, your Rolex could be your ticket out of said sticky situation. |

Take a casio. Even if they think its a fake you could still lose a limb or your life for it.
Silly to take that kind of risk. I've been to Africa. Sent from my SM-S918B using Tapatalk

OP, don’t listen to the rest. Take chances and live a little. That’s my philosophy. If you get your arm chopped off, please post pics.

Don't wear it if you feel you're going to be looking over your shoulder all the time. (Yes, I've been to West Africa).

It’s silly talking simply about Africa. Damn, AFRICA is huge and has more than 50 countries and they are day and night between them.
Dakar is not the roughest place and being an expat will make the OP to live in conditions where he will be safer than in several places of Europe or US. Go for it and humbly enjoy your nice watch there |

While they may not be the "sophisticated" rings of watch thieves in major American or European cities, I would say that you'd be rolling some serious dice wearing bright blue & YG watch in a country where its value could feed an entire community for a year. Get a Citizen Eco-Drive or a G-Shock. I'd be sad about giving away a G-Shock at machete-point, but not heartbroken.

Do you have a beater? When in doubt, wouldn't it be the perfect occasion to wear the beater? I am just as proud to wear my reasonably priced watches.

The blue TT watch will attract more attention (blingy) than others - more so than anything in SS (or even WG). So, I would not take something that blingy - a SS explorer or sub I'd consider (but might not wear it in all circumstances either - at least until I got acclimated to the area and possible threat profile). Up to you of course
