GMT2c versus Milgauss Black Face

I have recently tried on the Milgauss "Black Face". Didn't think too much about it until it was on my wrist. It's another great looking watch (dressy but sporty as well). I also like the GMT2C. These two watches are definitely different watches but unfortunately can only afford one.

Any comments or suggestions from members of TRF especially from those who own both. Thanks in advance...

Out of those 2 it has to bet the GMT. GMT is more every day, and the bezel of the Milgauss is more likely to get scratched.

I do love the Milgauss, though!

I got a black face green crystal Milgauss over the weekend and absolutely love it. At least for now, it's my favorite.

Thats a good question...and I do not own both. These are both 'tool watches,' meaning that they have an alternative function or purpose other than just looking darned nice on your wrist. If that alternative function is important, you probably would not be asking. Both of them do very nicely in the latter regard, they are Rolex! So, without a particular alternative purpose in your mind (protection from high-energy electrical fields, or keeping track of three time zones while you travel), you must follow your heart. :) Afterall, you probably won't sell it later anyway. We all understand that its a delightful choice to anticipate! Enjoy the whole experience!

Though I like the Milgauss (especially the one with black face) more an more, I would have gone with the GMT2c without any question.

Good luck.

Cheers,

I had that combination. The Black Milgauss left when the GV arrived.

A comparison,

Got both. As a one and only, has to be GMT2c, if you have something else, then a Milgauss is simply amazing.

GMT 2C. More versatile, more of a classic look.

It is a lot thicker...and taller as well. There are essentially two casebacks in there. I would be interested to know the difference in weight. I love the looks of the GMT IIc but the milgauss' size and proportions just seem right to me.

Tough call, I own a Mill, don't own the GMT2c but have handled them many times. I guess if you travel a lot the the GMT is the way to go. If you want something that you will not see often in the wild then the Mil.

The Milgauss is a super watch that is often overlooked by many on this forum.

I guess it depends on which function you need the most--basically, what the writer "johnboy" said above. Personally, I like the Milgauss for it's casual dress look, but I like the GMT for a world where I have to call across the time zones more often. At this time, I would add the GMT to my list. But I really like the Milgauss as well and hope to add one of them as well.

I guess I shouldn't be so surprised, as there are so many members on this forum! However, I was looking at those very two just the other day. And the surprising thing is that the GMT is just as comfortable as the Milgauss. I did look at Air Kings, the Explorer I and Perpetual 36mm models as well. In the end, as this is a special occasion for me (my 60th), I got the one I have been lusting over for a couple of years - the Milgauss. And yes, the black dial with plain crystal. It just sang to me, even over the GV.
So, my vote would have to be for the Milgauss, I just find it more versatile. Having said that, I couldn't get over how beautiful - in every aspect - is the GMT IIc. That ceramic bezel, and the black dial complements it so well! It also has the new movement, with the Parachrom spring, which is a big plus. I am, however, partial to watches with no date. Especially, with beautiful dials like Rolex. I think that if the GMT II had a regular date window and not the Cyclops, as well as a black background for the date instead of white, it would appeal to me more.
I just realized Rolex has most models of any watchmaker, of the one thing I like most: no date function, plain dial, and also one of the things I like least: date windows with a white background regardless of dial size, and the Cyclops window on every date model except the DSSD.
Also, if price is a concern: You are probably more likely to get a better discount on the Milgauss, as most people seem to want the model with the green crystal. And I believe the GMT IIc is right up there in popularity at the moment. I am too new to Rolex to have learned much about how, or if, they discount their watches. I do know that I got what I feel was a very fair deal from my AD on the black dial Milgauss. I mentioned my budget figure to him, and he was able to do it for me, tax in.
Will look forward to hearing your decision!
Cheers,
Carl

Would be interesting to know what other watches the OP owns/ has owned as well. If you already own a 16610 or a 16710, maybe a Milgauss would get my vote. Only Rolex? Then the GMT II-C hands down.

Got to be the GMT a much more versatile watch, while the Milgauss is just trying to be a vintage pretender there is only one Milgauss and thats the vintage original.
