Opportunity to purchase 116518 PN dial from AD.
Dear all,
I got a call from a new AD for a Daytona OF old reference 116518 LN. I had requested the watch about 2 years ago and this would be my first purchase with this AD. I slightly prefer the newer reference 126518 PN but i also dont want to turn this down considering i quite like it as well. I can go for the old reference or i can be put on a list for a newer one with no guaranteed delivery time. What would you do in this scenario? Which reference do you prefer and which one do you think will be more collectible 10 years+ down the road? I intend to wear the watch on regular rotation (1-2 times a week). |

Welcome to the forum.
I guess you have to ask yourself if you’ll be happy owning the 11xx long term. I suspect you want the new one (reading between the lines), and that feeling will never go away IMHO |

I actually prefer the 11. If I preferred the 12 like you do, I would wait for one.

That’s a lot of money to spend on something you don’t prefer.

One on the wrist is worth 10 on the list. Go in and give it a try at the AD. If it works for you, get it. If not, wait.

Seems you prefer the newer series, then it's best you wait for it, but then, the 11 series is not a bad buy at all.

Seems like the consensus is that the PN 116 is better than the new reference. Any chance someone has a side by side comparison?

If both options were on the table I would definitely go with new reference.
However, there is no guarantee you will get the 12 soon. It may take a long wait. Take what you can and enjoy it |

I almost always prefer "old reference" examples.
Buying one that's discontinued always feels more special to me

Opportunity to purchase 116518 PN dial from AD.
Most, including myself, much prefer the 116 PN dial over the 126 PN dial. That seems to be the one consensus on 116 vs 126.

Even if you slightly prefer the 126, they are too similar IMO to have to wait potentially an extended amount of time (maybe years).
Plus, more than likely, by the time you are allocated a 126, there will have been a few price increases to RRP. I'd take the 116, once on wrist, I don't think you would regret it. If understand if you pass though, best of luck in your decision. They are both stunning watches! |

If I waited two years for a watch, two years…I wouldn’t hesitate, there it is, right here, right now, done deal.

You got a call for a PN Daytona, you’ve been on the list for? Is there even a doubt about what you should do? GRAB IT!

I'd take whats being offered now. It's always tempting to get the latest but if it means two more years waiting . . . that's two years you could be enjoying a sweet watch.

Many thanks for your opinions.
After thinking more about it the past couple of days, I have decided to wait for the new reference. That's the one i truly want. I believe that all OF Daytonas will eventually trade below retail so there wont be much wait for one, hence no reason for me to compromise now. |

While I would certainly buy either I prefer the old version. Although not as "refined" as the new one I like the case, sub-dials and bezel on the previous version.
Also I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your AD but some get very offended when you turn something down. Mine says "she appreciates it" b/c she has plenty of others who she can call but I wonder. LOL |

Opportunity to purchase 116518 PN dial from AD.

Well, it would be nice, if true. It’s just my opinion, but you may never get offered the newer reference. While there is some indication that things are improving, it’s going to be several years before things really turn around. If you are willing to wait years, or go grey, then you are golden. I would at least go look at it, try it on, then tell them you’d prefer the newer model. If it were me, I’d take this one, and if a new one ever does come available, buy it, and sell the older model. Also, be aware that if you turn this down, that particular AD may never offer you anything again. Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
